Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Carrying Corpses and Cuddles

Right now, I desperately need help dragging these giant rabbit corpses back to the cave. But my siblings? Completely useless. I don't know if they're just dumb or if their brains are made of snowflakes, but they don't listen at all. They dragged the bodies for a few minutes… then started playing tag with each other like we weren't hauling dead bunnies the size of small humans.

Only after I growled like an angry gym teacher did they stop fooling around and get back to work.

We had a total of five rabbit bodies. I was stuck dragging two of them by myself, while my siblings lazily pulled the other three. But because we were all still small, and these rabbit bodies were huge, it was taking forever. And my siblings? Yeah, not really built for manual labor.

After four grueling hours of dragging, slipping, grunting, and growling, we finally reached the cave. I was drenched in sweat, even though we were surrounded by snow. Honestly, if I could remove this fluffy white fur coat for just five minutes, I swear I'd feel like a free man—err, wolf.

Man, I felt like crap. And in this freezing snow, I couldn't even take a bath to freshen up. Not that wolves care about baths, but come on—I'm still human on the inside.

As we approached the cave entrance, Papa Wolf and Mama Wolf came out to greet us. They began sniffing us like we were suspicious airport luggage, probably checking to see if we brought back something dumb like a skunk again. Then, Mama Wolf started licking me clean. It felt weird. But I've gotten used to it by now.

After their inspection, Papa and Mama helped drag the rest of the rabbit corpses inside. Teamwork, baby.

Every time I come back into this cave, I can't help but miss my cozy sofa, my cotton bed… and my glorious, beautiful Wi-Fi. But there's no point whining. Life gave me a fur suit and a tail—I just have to wag it and deal with it.

Shaking off those depressing thoughts, I walked over to Mama Wolf. After a hard hunt, my energy was drained. And honestly, she was the warmest and most comforting thing in this whole cave. My siblings were already cuddled up together—one was even chasing his own tail like a maniac. It looked ridiculous, but kind of cute.

I flopped down beside Mama Wolf, curled up, and fell into a deep sleep. Apparently, she even licked me clean while I was snoozing… I didn't feel a thing.

The next morning, I woke up to see Papa and Mama Wolf getting ready to head out for another group hunt.

And so the days passed.

We hunted. We cuddled. We slept. We repeated.

There's this one weird sibling of mine who still bites his own tail every time we come back from a successful hunt. I don't know what he gets out of it. Maybe it's a stress thing? Or maybe he just thinks his tail is delicious. Either way—I gave up trying to understand it.

This simple routine went on for five years.

Yep. Five. Whole. Years.

I grew bigger—taller than even Papa Wolf. He's about four feet tall and three feet long. I'm now four and a half feet tall, with the same length. My siblings grew too, but I was clearly the biggest. Mama Wolf is still the same size as me, if not slightly more muscular. I didn't notice the size differences when I was a pup, but now it's pretty obvious.

In these five years, I've learned a lot about hunting, survival, and the animals in this region. Not too much though, since I rarely leave the area nowadays.

My siblings have also come to understand that I'm stronger and a little scary. So whenever they hunt, they bring me the biggest chunk of meat. It's almost like they consider me the alpha now.

Well, technically, the real alpha is still Papa Wolf… but I'm clearly the fan favorite.

These days, Papa, Mama, and I mostly just chill in the cave while the other six do the hunting. It's a sweet life—less hunting, more meat. But I still miss my comfy bed, and I still hate sleeping on these hard, cold rocks.

That night, I was lying near the cave entrance, waiting for my siblings to return from their hunt. They usually came back before nightfall.

But then, out of nowhere—

"Awooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!"

That wasn't a regular howl.

It was a distress call.

My siblings were in danger.

The moment I heard it, Papa Wolf and I leapt to our feet. Without saying a word, we charged out of the cave and headed in the direction of the howl. As wolves, we could easily track their scent.

And so, we ran at full speed, ready for whatever was out there.

Because this time… it wasn't just about hunting.

It was about saving family.
