"So… you two talk now?"
The question had been casual. Too casual. But Arthur froze anyway, heart hammering like it wanted to escape his chest.
When he had been left alone in the room with Kelly earlier that evening, he had been so nervous he could barely form a proper sentence. Every innocent question she asked made him feel strangely paranoid, like she could see straight through him, into the messy jumble of thoughts he had spent hours trying to organize.
It had been half an hour since she left, yet he was still thinking about Aunt Kelly's expression when she had seen him and Natalia together in that room. That small, subtle smile of hers. That knowing, almost amused glint in her eyes. And the way she had casually asked, "So… you two talk now?"
How could he possibly say they got along, that also way too well?
