Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 - A New Friend

As soon as the presentations ended, the compartment started bustling with noise. The two sets of siblings seemed to have a lot to talk about from the summer and knew each other well.

Theo and Yuri were the only ones who were not participating in the conversation.

'Should I strike up a conversation with her?' Theo thought as he stared at her.

She was sitting in front of him and had a bored look on her face as she surveyed the corridor of the train. Her grey eyes were half-closed, like she was almost falling asleep.

*Sigh*

Letting out a sigh, she turned to me and spoke.

"So, are you excited to study at Hogwarts?"

'I suppose that's the only topic we have in common after all.'

"Well, I'm quite excited, but I'm also aware that Hogwarts is not a vacation resort."

"It seems that you are planning to take your studies quite seriously, that's not a normal approach for your age." Yuri answered, eyes wide.

"Aren't we the same age?" I asked with a slight grin.

"I'm not like the rest of you."

"Hoho. What do we have here? A never-seen genius?"

"Genius? Perhaps. But that's not what makes me 'different'."

"Do explain."

"Everyone seems to think that Hogwarts is a cool place to have fun, but it is a place to communicate."

"Communicate, not study?"

"Obviously, you'll have to study, it's a school, after all. However, it's a place to form connections!"

"Connections?"

Theo was intrigued, after all, when going to a school, a student had one of two thoughts: have fun with friends or study and have good grades. But making connections? That was out of the ordinary.

"Exactly! It's not always you find yourselves with the entirety of the country's next generation. Strike a good impression with the heir of a powerful family, and you can get their support in the future. Have a good friendship with a talented student, and you buy yourself a strong backer!"

"Well~, we have quite the smart junior, don't we?" Anna seemed quite interested in our conversation.

"Smart, but people might not like such an approach. Just like you might find great allies, you will definitely find a lot of enemies, after all, people will feel betrayed if they think you just approached them for their money or talent." Rachel snorted.

"It's not like I will be tricking them, I will help and make them owe favors to me, as well as forge good relationships. I-" Yuri, flustered, tried to explain herself.

Theo interrupted.

"There's no need for you to explain, I can understand you don't mean any harm to anyone, so..."

Theo extended his hand for a handsake.

"... allow me to become your first connection in this school life." he said while flashing a smile.

Forming a similar smile to Theo's, Yuri shook his hand.

"Thanks, let's study together. I believe we will be great friends, Theo."

"Surely, Yuri."

"Yeah! Count me in aswell!" Raphael showed a big smile.

"Me too!" Wendy chimed in.

"I guess we will have to take care of this, juniors. Right, Rachel?"

"Hmph."

After that, everyone took turns shaking Yuri's hand as well as each other's and laughed.

'I guess I'm off to a good start.' Theo thought, not knowing that those thoughts were shared with the others.

Meanwhile, two boys were having fun in a compartment full of all kinds of sweets and snacks.

"Oh! It seems that the cart already passed here. Can I sit with you?"

A voice resounded from the entrance of the compartment. The boys, one red-haired and the other with messy black hair, turned their heads to find a young girl of their age standing there with her baggage.

The girl was smiling widely. She had black hair with a couple of crimson red strands of hair at the left side of her hair.

"Uhm... sure, you can sit." The black-haired boy was the one who spoke.

"Thank you!"

The girl beamed with happiness and hurried to sit with the boys.

"I'm Freya Alinac, freshman." she introduced herself.

"Ron Weasley, I'm also a freshman." Ron answered the girl. Seeing his new friend shying away, he decided to introduce him." And this is the famous Harry Potter!"

"Harry Potter?!" the girl gasped.

"Hello." Harry said a short greeting.

"Why so nervous? I'm not going to eat you! Let's have fun this year!"

The girl's bright attitude quickly made Harry and Ron shrug off any shyness that came with first meetings and engage in casual conversations.

"Why did you only sat now? Did you not find a compartment to sit in? We have departed for a while now." Harry eventually asked.

The girl's previously smiling face slowly became a little gloomy.

"Well, it's just that there were a lot of full compartments, and the ones that were not full either had scary seniors or freshmen that seemed already acquainted with one another."

"Then, why enter ours?" Ron asked, his gaze showing pure curiousity.

"I saw a lot of candy and two boys who seemed to be having the greatest time of their lives, the atmosphere that I sensed here seemed quite light and warm."

"Is that so?"

"Yeah, you guys seem really fun to hang out with."

"Well, I don't mind receiving a few more compliments." Ron answered with a haughty expression.

Seeing Ron reacting like that to praise, Freya giggled while Harry did his best to not laugh at his new friend.

Not hearing more compliments but laughs instead, Ron turned red in shame and hid his face behind a bag of candy. This caused another big reaction on the other two.

"Excuse me!"

A scream led them to stop in their tracks. The source was a girl with light skin, brown eyes, and bushy brown hair.

"Finally! I was trying to get your attention, but you seemed too engrossed in whatever you were doing."

"Who are you?" Recovering from his embarrassment, Ron asked.

"I'm Hermione Granger. I'm helping someone who has lost their pet. Have you seen a frog anywhere?"

"No, we haven't seen anything. Harry and I haven't left the compartment ever since we departed. What about you, Freya?"

"Hm? No, I didn't see any frog, but maybe I could help."

"You would? Thank you, Neville, the frog's owner, is quite desperate."

"Maybe we should go look in other carriages?"

"Yeah let's go!"

Hermione and Freya left to find the boy's frog, but one of the girls had a different objective.

'He should be in the carriage next to this one. I don't need to interact with him, just seeing him from afar will be enough. He probably won't be happy with what I will do.'

Her eyes showed a great amount of determination.

'I'm sorry, Theo.'
