Chapter 1 - 1: 'To love Ru', What a stupid name

*Saruyama Kenichi POV*

The sunset from the school's roof shone into my eyes as thoughts clouded my mind,

'Why is it that we exist?' My thoughts were cut short by the sound of Sanin Academy's bell. Guess the day was over. I looked out to see the beautiful city landscape, it was…breathtaking, something that was hard to find in reality, almost like something from an…an…anime.

A quick flash ran through my mind, a beautiful girl wearing an odd outfit that showed off her amazing figure, and her long pink hair that seemed straight out of fantasy.

"Wha-who-wh-what was that?" I asked myself, my thoughts soon refocused as I spotted below my only friend from school, Yukki Rito.

He was standing behind a tree, his messy light brown hair stood out amongst the few trees and bushes that surrounded the tennis courts he was watching. "Haa, of course." I looked over to one of the players on the field and was un-surprised to find the object of Rito's attraction, Sairenji Haruna.

She was a young, beautiful girl. 15 in age but could already be making waves in the model world if she gave it a shot. She had short blue hair and purple eyes.

'…Wait, blue hair, purple eyes…is that normal? O-of course it is, I'm looking right at living proof why wouldn't it be normal. What has been wrong with me these past few days?'

Her hair was tied back from hitting her eyes with a red hair clip, though it seemed ineffective as a few strands always stuck onto her face. It made her quite cute, I could see why Rito liked her…And also why many other boys did too…why don't I?

I wondered, but my body was already thinking faster than my mind was and I was on my way to meet Rito in the tennis fields to talk to him.

On my way down I saw one of the disciplinary committee members, Kotegawa Yui. Her silky black hair reached down to her waist and her golden eyes were giving a stern look to another kid.

The kid in question was standing at the front of two other kids, much against his choice as it was evident that they had pushed him to the front. He had quite a bland appearance, his dark brown hair only had a feature of two strands that made it look like a roach was climbing out of his head. His brown eyes looked at Kotegawa fearfully.

She held in her hands a magazine that can only be described as perverted, something that you could definitely find in my house. A fact that I don't broadcast, unlike these idiots who brought theirs to school.

"P-Please understand Kokegawa, we won't do it again." Junichi Hashiba pleaded to Kotegawa, who seemed more angry at him now after he mispronounced her name.

"What did you just call me, you Shameless fools." Her hair flew up in a rage, and I could swear you could see fire behind her as she grew angrier. I laughed a little and walked away, a thought creeping its way into my head as I did.

'I find it so weird that Junnichi will be dating Yukana soon.' I stopped, my thoughts despite not sounding right, did sound right.

"Why did I think that?" No, that wasn't what I should be asking, "Why do I know that?" Is a better way to put it.

'Kenichi!' A voice played in my mind, one that I had heard before, but where was it that I had heard it? Why did it sound so familiar? Why did I feel so sad when I heard it?

My thoughts rushed, my heart beat faster and my head hurt. I didn't want to feel this pain, it hurt. It felt like what you would see on tv when someone shook up a carbonated drink, it was like I was about to burst. I fell to my knees and grasped my head.

"TOMOKI!! HOW DARE YOU!!" A woman's voice brought me out of my funk. I looked up to see a girl with long brown hair that was tied up with a yellow ribbon. She had big brown eyes and large breasts. She was beautiful. She looked familiar…something about her reminded me of…

"HAHA~!! STUPID SOHARA, THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR LEAVING THE DOOR UNLOCKED!!" A young man, who could only be described as small (Chibi) ran faster than the girl who chased him. In his hands he held a pile of women's underwear and also wore one on top of his face. This situation could only be described as…

"Haha, Tomoki's at it again."

"Yeah, you can't expect this to last long, how long until you think he gets caught?"

"Who knows? He does it so much that the shocks worn off, it's more funny now if anything." Two people passing by said, were they watching the same scene as me? A scene they described as 'Funny' to me seemed,

Bizarre.

I picked myself back up as the boy, who was named Tomoki, fell flat on his face. The girl, who was named Sohara, wasted no time in beating him up. She pummeled him with her fists, her fists leaving marks everywhere on him, he would be recovering for a while.

Wait, no he wouldn't. He'll be back tomorrow, good as new.

…Why did I think he'd be injured?

The whack of a tennis ball against the gate of the tennis court snapped me out of my thoughts.

I looked up to see that Sairenji had hit the fence, her teammates not on the court with her.

Instead they all seemed to be congregating around the attractive coach, Sasuga.

His handsome appearance, short blonde hair, nice jawline, and as the girls described it 'Dreamy' eyes. Seemed to have won over all of the club members.

He wasn't against the attention in fact he seemed to adore it, his vibe was…creepy to say the least. Though the girls didn't seem any wiser, except Sairenji.

Who while I doubt was able to sense his ulterior 'appreciations' was more devoted to tennis than she was to guys like him.

After all she liked Rito, a fact that everyone except Rito could see.

"Ha-Haruna~" Rito looked out from behind the tree to watch Haruna as she played tennis with the fence.

The fact that he had gone unnoticed was shocking to me.

"He hides like Chopper does in one piece…what the hells a one piece? And why does it sound like peak?"

My thoughts became weird again, but my body carried me as if on muscle memory.

"Rito, you do know that you could talk to her, right?" I crossed my arms as a smug smile appeared on my face. Rito looked over at me, a panicked look on his face appeared as I Spoke.

"S-Saruyama what are you doing? What if Haruna sees you!"

"If she does, she'll come over and talk to us, more specifically you."

"B-but what if she does? What if she talks to me?"

"Good, you need to expose yourself to women more, might as well start now. Hey, Sairenji!" I yelled over to Sairenji to get her to come over to talk to Rito.

She turned her head in a jerk, not paying attention to her racket in hand, as she swung the tennis ball right in my direction.

The tennis ball moved like a bullet, right toward me. As it zoomed into my face I was flung back into a somersault into the air. An action that made zero sense with physics.

It was like something right out of an anime.

As my air somersaults came to an end my headaches returned, but this time they seemed to finally do what they were intending to do from the start, and I finally realized something, my life…was an anime.

And a stupid one at that, 'To love Ru' really? What kind of name is that?
