"Why are they slaves?" He asked Sasha
"It depends. Most people get put into slavery because they cant pay off a debt. If they have a family member, they might sell them into slavery to pay the debt off, whether it was their mother, brother, uncle, or cousin."
"Seriously? Simply because they can't pay their debt?" Kai was baffled by this. Slavery was illegal in his old world, at least in most parts of it.
"Yeah, but that's not all. Sometimes, people get put into slavery because they made a bet and lost, had a duel and lost, some nobles have their house taken over, and the nobles who lost get thrown into slavery. Criminals also sometimes become slaves."
"Wow. Some of that I can agree with, like criminals. But the rest is a bit extreme if you ask me."
Sasha shrugged. "That's just the way of the world."
"True that."
'We found the house! Come quick!' Gwen yelled in Kai's head.
"They found the house, let's go." He grabbed Sasha's arm and teleported to Gwen's location.
