The result? Thousands survived with their biology permanently altered. These "Phasebound" individuals now experience unstable phasing, slipping in and out of solid matter, reality, time, or even dimensions. Their powers are volatile, unpredictable—and often deadly to themselves and others.

The alien weapon detonates over New Chicago, changing thousands. The protagonist, Lyra Quinn, an ex-paramedic, discovers her body no longer obeys the laws of physics.
