The Storm Within the Tower
Liliette had made up her mind.
“Starting today, I’m going to the study. So you should head to your office as well,” she declared.
Vlad flinched, startled by her sudden decision. A splash of cream landed on the edge of the plate as he drizzled it over the strawberries. Setting the cream jug down carefully, he turned to face Liliette. She was perched on the edge of the bed with her arms folded, her robe cinched snugly around her waist.
“You’ve been here for three days. There’s only so much your vassals can handle on their own. I’ll be fine by myself now,” she insisted.
Even in this moment of supposed seclusion, Vlad’s appearance remained impeccable. His hair was neatly slicked back, and his shirt and trousers were perfectly pressed. Once he put on his uniform coat, he would look just as polished as ever. In other words, it would be easy to shoo him away.
