Chapter 2 - Organizing the shelter

Perhaps due to the enclosed space, Jim didn't detect any radiation in the cave. If he manages to gather the right tools and supplies, he could expand his shelter to the cave's entrance.

Jim then walked right next to the iron-built shelter and commanded the exoskeleton to disarm and crawl out of it slowly.

He then observed the battery left in it and found it was fully charged, and he could use it for at least 24 hours after a full charge.

He returned to the room, sat at the table with the fixed tablet, and began exploring its various functions.

There are several functions, such as [chat], [shelter], [weather], and [store].

Opening Chat, it was divided into several sections, such as friends, regional, and world.

And there was a notification indicating that to survive the first day, to access the chat function.

Jim felt disappointed when he couldn't access the chat function, so he switched to the shelter option. Upon clicking it, a page opened up, providing details about the shelter range and its upgrade conditions.

[initial iron shelter]

[Range: 10 square meters]

[upgrade conditions: 10 units of iron per square meter]

Other than the upgrading option, there was no other option available in that section.

Upon opening the weather section, it displayed the current weather conditions inside and outside the shelter.

[weather in shelter]

Time: Evening, 6 pm

Temperature: - 20 degrees Celsius

Radiation: - No Radiation present in the room.

[weather outside the shelter]

Temperature: - -10 degrees Celsius

Radiation: - severe (not recommended for survival)

Seeing the severe radiation levels, Jim felt a shiver run down his spine.

He considered himself lucky for not removing the rock blocking the cave's exit, knowing that even the exoskeleton wouldn't have shielded him from such intense radiation.

Jim prayed for the radiation levels to get lowered so he could see the scenery outside the cave and map his surroundings.

He opened the store and found a variety of items, from food to survival materials needed for upgrading the shelter, all available for purchase with survival coins.

But he doesn't have any survival coins present with him to purchase any of them.

"It seems he has to find a way to earn the survival coins, or he can't upgrade the shelter," Jim muttered to himself.

After reading everything, Jim sighed in relief, realizing that if he hadn't checked the tab for further instructions, he might have missed the options and ended up going outside, exposing himself to the radiation.

Since he hadn't eaten since waking up, Jim got up from his chair and headed to the food producer. He discovered there was a single unit of starch available, enough to make a few biscuits in the machine.

Jim pressed the produce button on the machine, which revealed the baking symbol. A few biscuits were then ejected into the outlet basket. Jim picked it up and noticed it was brown and hot, having just come out of the machine moments ago.

Jim then took a cup of water from the water collector and went back to the table, sat in the chair, and made himself comfortable.

He grabbed the biscuits and devoured them quickly, ignoring their bland taste, then gulped down a full cup of water to rinse his mouth and soothe his parched throat.

Jim then felt he should exercise a little to start building his body; otherwise, survival in the world would become difficult with this weak body.

Jim did a few light exercises in the cave, returned to drink some water, made his bed, and slept soundly, his body heavy with fatigue from the workout.

Even though Jim isn't a survival expert, he knows that getting sleep in safe areas is crucial. Without it, his health would deteriorate, significantly lowering his chances of survival.

As the night passed, Jim woke up feeling refreshed after a good night's sleep. He checked the food producer and water condenser, finding two units of food and three liters of water available.

He grabbed a cup of water to rinse his mouth and wash his face, started the food machine to bake some biscuits, then sat at the table and used his tablet to check the weather outside.

[Weather]

Time 7 am

Inside the shelter: - 18 Celsius

Outside: 0 degrees Celsius, mild radiation

The ideal time for foraging outside the shelter is before 1 pm, as radiation levels rise from mild to medium afterward. Any foraging or outdoor activities beyond this time require protective suits for safety.

Jim leapt with excitement upon seeing the clear weather, perfect for an outing. With the help of his exoskeleton, he can explore the outdoors, map his surroundings, gather wood and other resources for upgrading his shelter, and even look into ways to earn more survival coins along the way.

He eagerly grabbed the freshly baked biscuits from the machine, quickly ate them, and drank water to stay hydrated in the heat. Then, he hastily opened the iron door and stepped outside the room.

Then he wore the exoskeleton and went towards the exit with happy steps.

Upon reaching the entrance, Jim discovered a rock obstructing his path. He leaned against it and began pushing it aside to create a passage for his escape from the cave.

Jim easily pushed the rock aside with the help of his exoskeleton and set foot outside.

The outside world is cloaked in a dark, gloomy sky, creating an ominous atmosphere.

Jim waited for 10 minutes for the sky to clear up, but there were no signs of clearing of the dark clouds.

Jim accepted the results and pushed the rock to block the cave entrance, ensuring animals wouldn't enter the shelter while he was away.

He looked around and noticed his shelter was being constructed on the mountain's summit, which had a gentle slope, making it easy to travel up and down the mountain.

The mountain was barren, covered only with rocks and scattered small bushes, devoid of trees or wildlife.

Jim descended the slope, making his way down the mountain until he arrived at a small, dried-up forest.

Due to radiation, the trees were dead, and only a sparse tree survived in the forest.

Jim kicked a tree with his foot, and the exoskeleton added extra force, causing the tree to fall to the other side. He then lifted the fallen tree from the ground and dragged it to the base of the mountain.

Afterward, he began kicking all the dried-up trees, which left him feeling the strain from repeatedly lifting his leg to kick them.

Jim sat for a few minutes to rest, which helped ease his muscle strains, and then began dragging the fallen tree to the base of the mountain, where he stacked it neatly.

If he had an axe, he could have made them into fine logs and carried them back onto the top of the mountain.
