Corvin's breath caught, his body betraying him as a shiver ran down his spine. "Rhys," he said, his voice low, almost a warning, "This isn't fixing anything, not after the way you spoke to Kael last night." He tried to pull his hand back, but Rhys's grip tightened, keeping him in place.

"It's not about Kael," Rhys murmured, his voice rough with something raw, something desperate. He leaned in closer, his breath hot against Corvin's ear.

"It's about us. You think I don't feel it? The way you look at me? The way you looked at me just now, out there?" His free hand braced against the wall beside Corvin's head, caging him in.

"I'm not blind, Doc."

Corvin's jaw clenched, his mind a storm of conflicting emotions—anger, desire, hurt. "You didn't say a damn word to me last night," he bit out, his voice trembling despite his effort to stay cold.
