Chapter 10 - The spooky Mansion mission begins

Alex took a deep breath, his eyes never leaving the flickering TV screen. "We can't let this happen," he murmured, his fist tightening around his glowing orb. "We can't let this city fall to the zombies."

Samantha, her mind racing, looked to Alex for guidance. "What do we do?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Alex took a sip of his soda, his mind racing. The TV's flickering images played out a scene all too familiar to them. "We stick to the plan," he said, his eyes never leaving the screen. "We keep our heads down, build our alliances, and wait for the right moment to strike."

Rebecca looked at them, confusion clouding her features. "What are you guys talking about?" she asked, her voice filled with concern. "Is there something I should know?"

Alex and Sam shared a look, weighing the risks of involving her in their mission. They had come so far, and she was now an integral part of their lives in Racoon City. The decision was made in an instant. Alex leaned in, his eyes serious. "Becky, we need to tell you something. Something big."

He took her hand, the warmth of her touch grounding him as he plunged into the cold, hard truth. "The Umbrella Corporation," he began, "it's not just a pharmaceutical company. They're involved in something...something darker. They're working on a biological weapon, a virus that could wipe out humanity."

Rebecca's eyes grew wide with horror. "But why?" she whispered.

Alex took a deep breath, choosing his words carefully. "For power," he said. "For control. They think they can use this virus to bend the world to their will."

Rebecca stared at him, her eyes unblinking. "What can we do?" she whispered.

Alex leaned in closer, his voice a mix of determination and urgency. "We can't just sit by and let this happen," he said. "We're here for a reason. We have to stop them before it's too late."

Rebecca's eyes searched Alex's, looking for any sign of doubt or deception. Finding none, she nodded slowly, her mind racing with the implications of his words. "But how?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "What can we do against something like that?"

Alex's grip on her hand tightened, his eyes filled with a fierce resolve. "We have something they don't," he said. "We have each other, and we have the element of surprise." He leaned back in his chair, his gaze shifting to the shadows in the corner of the room. "And we have Richtofen."

Samantha nodded in understanding. "The Mad Doctor," she murmured.

Alex leaned in closer, his voice a low murmur. "That's right. He's working on the inside, developing a cure, trying to understand their twisted intentions."

Rebecca's mind was a whirlwind, trying to piece together the puzzle that was her new reality. "But why would you guys do that?" she managed to ask, her voice shaking.

Alex grinned mischievously, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "Why not?" he said, his tone light and teasing. "It's not every day you get to be a hero, you know?"

Rebecca stared at him, her mind racing. "But this isn't a game," she said, her voice trembling.

Alex leaned back in his chair, the mischievous twinkle in his eye not quite reaching his voice. "I know," he said soberly. "But sometimes, the most dangerous battles are the ones we fight in the shadows."

The room grew quiet as the gravity of the situation settled over them like a thick fog. The TV's static buzzed in the background, a stark reminder of the horrors that were to come. Samantha's hand found its way into Alex's, her grip tight and reassuring. They had come so far together, and now, they were about to embark on the most critical part of their journey.

"We need to get to Racoon City PD," Alex said firmly, his mind racing with strategy. "We've got to get our hands on the intel, the blueprints, anything that can help us stop the outbreak."

Samantha nodded, her eyes hardening with resolve. "I'll talk to Becky," she said, turning to her friend. "We'll keep her safe, but we can't hide this from her any longer."

The trio agreed that it was time to bring Rebecca into their confidence. They knew she was strong, capable, and had the potential to be a valuable ally in their fight against Umbrella. Alex could already see the wheels turning in her mind as she tried to make sense of the impossible.

The following night, they gathered at the "Phoenix's Den," the dojo's lights dimming as the hidden armory beneath it revealed itself. A trapdoor in the floor swung open, leading to a chamber stocked with weapons and gear that Alex had created from his imagination. Each piece was tailored to their individual skills, a testament to their unity and shared destiny.

Alex held up a tiny, sleek device no larger than a USB stick. "Behold," he announced, "the Eye of Athena." With a flick of his wrist, the drone expanded into a miniature camera, capable of real-time reconnaissance. It hovered in the air, the whir of its propellers barely audible. "We each get one," he said, distributing the devices. "They're linked to our wristbands for stealth and instant intel."

The group nodded, slipping on their wristbands, each one a unique blend of metals and glowing with the power of the Elemental Shard. Maxis's voice crackled through the devices, a reassuring presence in their ears. "I'll be watching over you," he said, "keeping tabs on the situation from the mansion."

Sophia stepped forward, her eyes filled with steely resolve. "I'll stay behind with Fluffy," she said, her hand resting on the head of the small golden retriever that had become Samantha's constant companion. "We'll keep the mansion secure and act as your eyes and ears."

Samantha's eyes grew misty with gratitude. "Thank you, Mom," she whispered, leaning in to kiss her mother's cheek. "You're the best."

Sophia's expression softened, a hint of a smile playing at her lips. "I know," she said, her voice filled with the warmth of a mother's love. "Now go, be careful, and come back to us."

The group nodded solemnly before splitting into two. Takeo, his resolve etched into the lines of his face, turned to Alex. "We should split up," he said, his voice firm. "I'll take Nik and search for Tank. With his S.T.A.R.S. connections, he might have information we need."

Alex nodded, his eyes never leaving Takeo's. "Be safe," he said, his voice filled with an unspoken promise. "We're in this together."

Nikolai clapped a hand on Takeo's shoulder, his smile wide and genuine. "To old friends and new beginnings," he said, raising a toast. The two men clinked their bottles together, the sound echoing through the tension-filled room.

The burly Russian took a swig of his vodka, his eyes never leaving Takeo's. "It's been a long time," he said, his voice filled with warmth. "But I never thought we'd be fighting side by side again, not like this."

Takeo's eyes searched his friend's, seeing the same determination that had fueled them in battles long past. "Neither did I," he admitted. "But here we are."

The two men shared a knowing nod before turning to Samantha and Alex. The air was thick with anticipation, the weight of their mission pressing down on their shoulders. Sam's eyes searched Alex's, seeking reassurance. He gave her a firm nod, his expression a mask of calm confidence.

Alex's phone, which had been sitting silently on the counter, suddenly burst into life. The screen lit up with an unfamiliar number, the ringtone piercing the silence like a gunshot. His heart skipped a beat as he snatched it up, his hand shaking slightly. "It's Becky," he murmured, swiping to answer.

Her voice was tense, urgent. "Alex," she whispered, "I got the call. They're sending me to Arklay Mansion."

Alex's heart raced. This was it, the moment they had been dreading. "We'll meet you there," he said, his voice a mix of fear and resolve. "We're on our way."

The trio dashed out of the dojo and into the cool night air, the gravity of their mission heavy in their lungs. The city looked eerily calm, the peaceful facade hiding the horrors that lay just beneath the surface. They split up, each heading to their designated rendezvous points, the Eye of Athena drones buzzing in the air like silent sentinels.
