Maya turned to face him, and the intensity in his eyes made her breath catch.
"This is complicated," she said.
"Everything worth having is complicated."
"I work for you now."
"You work for my company. There's a difference."
"Is there? Because it feels like my entire life has been turned upside down since San Francisco."
Alexander stepped closer, his hand reaching up to cup her cheek. "Mine too."
"What do you want from me, Alexander?"
"Everything," he said simply. "I want everything."
Before Maya could respond, Alexander's phone buzzed with an urgent notification. He glanced at it and swore under his breath.
"I'm sorry," he said. "There's a situation with the Tokyo office. I have to—"
"Go," Maya said, stepping back. "I understand."
But as she watched him disappear into the elevator, Maya wondered if she was fooling herself. Alexander Sinclair was a man whose business empire spanned the globe. Even if he wanted her, could there ever be room in his life for anything more than stolen moments between crises?
