"Why are you so happy?" Emily couldn't help but ask when she saw Jack smiling foolishly.
"Nothing, nothing," Jack stammered.
Emily glared at him, stood up to clear the table, but Jack quickly pulled her arm and made her sit on the sofa, saying, "Emily, you've worked hard cooking tonight, take a rest. Let me handle the rest of the cleaning."
With no real choice left, Emily settled onto the couch to watch TV while Jack took over in the kitchen.
Watching Jack bustle around the kitchen, Emily felt a warmth bloom in her heart, a sensation she hadn't felt in a very long time.
When Powell was at home before, they used to cook and clean together, laughing and chatting.
But ever since Powell left, she had been doing everything alone, and she hadn't felt this relaxed and happy for a long time.
