Chapter 14 - Chapter 14

I revert to my regular form.

"Nice work, kid," Iron Man said, stepping over. "But you really should've saved a few of those things, I would've loved to study them. Figure out how they work."

"That would've been a terrible idea, Tony," Atom said firmly. "Those things were incredibly dangerous. They destroyed their own creators. Playing around with them? Not smart."

"I agree with Atom," Captain America added. "Some tech is just too risky.

Iron Man held up his hands. "Whoa, whoa, who said anything about playing with them? I just want to study them. Learn how they work. I mean, they were converting raw materials into high-level tech! Imagine what that could do for Earth's advancement."

"Maybe," I said, crossing my arms. "But those things were dangerously complex. I doubt even you could figure them out. They'd just collect dust."

Tony gasped dramatically. "I am wounded, kid. Did you really just say that? I'm the smartest man on Earth."

"Debatable," Mr. Terrific chimed in casually.

"We can have that conversation again," Tony smirked. "This time I will win."

Before Mr. Terrific could clap back, we heard the distinct whup-whup of helicopters overhead.

We all turned. SHIELD. And the government. Of course. Now they show up—after all the work's done. Typical SHIELD behavior.

Good thing I made sure every last bit of robot tech was either frozen solid or smashed into useless scrap. They weren't getting anything out of this mess. Not the government. Not SHIELD. Not even Hydra, if they're still lurking around.

"Wow," Tony said, dryly. "Look at that. SHIELD. Fashionably late, as always."

"SHIELD?" I asked, faking ignorance.

"They're a covert branch of the government," Tony explained. "Not surprised you haven't heard of them—the public's not supposed to. But if you're sticking around as a hero, you're definitely gonna run into them. Word of warning though—don't let Nick Fury touch you. That guy's like a walking USB stick. He'll bug your armor without you even knowing it."

"Thanks for the heads-up," I nodded. "But my suit's got a built-in failsafe. Anyone tries to bug me? It fries the tech instantly."

"Ohoho, really?" Tony looked intrigued. "Now I definitely want to talk shop with you. That suit of yours, that transforming power you've got, how many forms do you have anyway? And what are they, monsters or aliens? Still can't decide."

Before I could answer, the helicopters touched down, kicking up a storm of dust and noise.

Out stepped Nick Fury from one chopper.

And from the other… General Eiling.

"Great work, Avengers and Justice League. You saved the nearby towns," Fury said as he stepped onto the scene.

"And you showed up late, after we did all the work," Iron Man shot back, arms crossed.

"The government was busy evacuating the civilians in case you failed," General Eiling replied. "We have the citizens' best interest in mind."

"SHIELD was on standby," Fury added. "If the situation got out of hand, we would've stepped in."

"I bet forty bucks that meant nuking the place if we failed," I said casually.

"That's a fool's bet," Tony smirked. "Of course they would've."

Fury and Eiling both turned and locked eyes on me.

"And who might you be?" Fury asked. "I don't recognize you. You're not part of the Avengers or the League."

I folded my arms. "Correct. I'm part of neither. Name's Omni, new hero on the scene."

"Well, Omni, if you're looking for a team, SHIELD would be happy to recruit you," Fury offered.

"No thanks. Not really interested in teams right now. Just doing my own thing," I said.

"You sure? SHIELD has plenty of benefits," Fury added, stepping a little closer.

"I'm sure. But I'm also sure those benefits come at a cost, like you wanting to know who I really am under the armor," I replied.

"Well, yes. That's the only way I can trust you."

"Right. But trust goes both ways, Director. And I don't know you, so I'm not joining anything."

Fury narrowed his eye at me but didn't push further… yet.

"Did you destroy all the alien machines?" General Eiling cut in, eyeing the shattered, frozen wreckage everywhere.

"Yep," I nodded. "After we stopped it, we piled up the remains, froze it solid, and Hulk smashed the whole thing into junk. No scraps. No reboots."

"You should've left some of it intact," Eiling said. "That tech could've been useful to the government."

"You mean weaponize it," I said. "That would've been a terrible idea. The thing literally wiped out its creators, who were way more advanced than us. You really think we could control it?"

"That's your opinion. You don't know what kind of resources we have. That tech could've been vital, especially against rogue metas," he said, shooting a not-so-subtle look at me.

"Okay… I feel like that was aimed at me," I said. "And why would I go rogue? I live on this planet. Why would I want to destroy it?"

"Who knows?" Eiling shrugged. "Maybe one day you get tired of playing the hero. Maybe you want to rule the world. Or maybe you just go crazy. That's why all heroes should reveal themselves to the government and work for it. Unchecked power is dangerous."

"And you think giving that kind of power to the government is safer?" I replied. "You'd use it for your own goals, not for the people. Let's not pretend the government doesn't have its own skeletons."

"If you were a real American, you'd be proud to serve your country," Eiling said firmly. "There is no corruption in the government."

Tony chuckled. "The day I believe that is the day I give away all my money."

"And heroes should protect the whole world, not just one country," Superman added, standing tall beside us.

"Okay, now let's not get into any unnecessary arguments," Fury said, trying to cool things down. "We should all be happy the Earth is safe. It's almost midnight, and I'm sure you're all tired. Leave the rest to us, we'll clean this mess up."

"No need," I said, stepping forward and activating the Omnitrix. I slammed the dial down.

My body shifted into a floating, rocky alien with a glowing core.

"Gravattack."

I focused my gravity powers and began gathering up all the frozen robot scraps scattered around the battlefield. With a flick of my hands, I crushed them together into a tight, compact ball, smaller than a basketball by the time I was done.

"You have gravity powers too? Man, are you sure you don't want to join the Avengers? We could really use you," Iron Man said, clearly impressed.

"Sorry. I like to do my own thing for now, before I even think about joining a team," I replied.

I set the crushed metal sphere down in front of me and transformed again.

My form shrank and shifted into a small, frog-like alien with glowing eyes and long, stretchy tongue tentacles.

"Upchuck."

"That's a weird one," Shazam said, squinting. "What's it do?"

I opened my mouth, and the tentacles shot out, grabbed the scrap ball, and dragged it into my stomach. My whole torso lit up with a neon glow. I looked up toward the sky, and a moment later, I launched a blast straight into the air. The glowing shot exploded like a firework high above us.

I shifted back to my regular form.

"Dude… that was crazy cool," Shazam said with a laugh.

"Thanks," I grinned. "I never really get the chance to use that alien."

"So they are aliens," Iron Man said, narrowing his eyes.

"Yep. But like pirate-man over there said, it's late, and I'm tired," I yawned, stretching a bit.

I turned and started walking away from the crowd. White Tiger and Wildcat flanked me as I tapped my wrist. A green flash of energy shimmered, and we disappeared.

But I didn't take us straight back to the base. First, I teleported us to a warehouse in Chicago, abandoned and quiet. Just in case. While we were there, I scanned both of them thoroughly, checking for bugs.

Making sure Batman then plant any bugs on them.

Once I was sure we were clean, I opened the portal back to base.

And just like that… we called it a night.

Nick Fury POV

I'm sitting in my office, staring out the window, the city lights reflecting in the glass. It's been a few hours since the whole alien invasion was handled. Everyone went home feeling like heroes, but I'm still here, waiting on a damn report.

I told my agents to look into Omni. We got all the video footage of the battle, and his powers? They're no joke. That kind of power in one person… it's dangerous. I tried the easy way. Offered him a chance to work with S.H.I.E.L.D.

He turned me down.

So now, we do it the hard way.

We never found out the Justice League identities, but I'll be damned if we let this new kid stay in the wind.

The door opened. Agent Hill walked in, tablet in hand.

"What do we got on him?" I asked without turning around.

"Nothing, sir," she said.

I slowly turned in my chair. "Come again?"

"We don't know who he really is. He's hiding in a way we've never seen before."

"You're telling me the most advanced spy agency on the planet can't find one rookie hero who's only been active a handful of times?"

She stayed calm, Hill always does. "We tried. But whoever this Omni is, he knows what he's doing. He's not just hiding himself; he's helping the others too. That Wildcat and White Tiger? Same deal. No useful leads, no clear digital footprint. And from what we gathered, Wildcat's been off the radar for years. Looks like Omni helped him come out of hiding."

I leaned back and sighed. "Guess I spoke too soon. Kid's more of a threat than I thought. He's new,but smart. Smarter than most of the capes running around."

There were only two moves I could make now. Either I go through the backdoor and put Natasha on the case quietly, or I keep extending the olive branch and hope the kid eventually takes it.

"Alright," I said. "First, I want eyes on the ground in New York. That's where he's been popping up most often. No contact, just observation. If he shows up, I want to know what he's doing, where he's going, and who he's saving."

"Understood."

"Second, get in touch with Romanoff. I want her to call me directly. I've got a special assignment for her."

"Yes, sir."

Hill turned and left, already messaging someone before the door even closed.

I stood up and looked out the window again.

"Omni," I muttered. "You can't hide forever."

He could be a major threat—or a game-changing ally. Either way, he's too powerful to ignore. And S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't ignore assets.

If anyone calls that villain behavior… so be it.

Because in my book?

This is how we keep the world spinning.

Batman POV

I'm in the Batcave, going through footage from the invasion. While everyone else is catching their breath, I'm here analyzing Omni.

He showed a couple new forms during the fight. Confirmed they're aliens. I've already started a file on each one we've seen so far. Problem is, I don't know what all of them can do. Without that info, my contingency plans won't be fully accurate... but incomplete is still better than nothing.

The League might've agreed to not go looking for Omni's identity, but I can't ignore someone walking around with that much power and that many unknowns. I need to know who he is, how many forms he has, how he got them, and—most importantly—how to stop him if it ever comes to that. I've got contingency plans for every member of the League, including myself. He won't be an exception.

"You just got done saving the world from a robot apocalypse and you're already back at it. Same old Bruce," Jason said, strolling in.

"Of course he is. He's Batman. The man doesn't even sleep," Dick added as he came down the stairs.

"I've got new footage of Omni. Just reviewing it," I told them, eyes still on the screen.

"I thought the League agreed to not dig into his identity?" Jason asked, eyebrow raised.

"They did," I replied. "But that doesn't change the facts. That kid's a wildcard. Too powerful, too mysterious. The League is being naive thinking we can just trust him without knowing anything."

"You always told me that trust was the foundation of any good team," Dick said. "If Omni ever joins the League and finds out you've been spying on him behind his back, how's he supposed to trust us? You'd call that a betrayal if the roles were reversed."

"Father isn't dealing with someone normal. He's dealing with a complete unknown," Damian cut in, dropping down from the dinosaur display. "This 'Omni' could just be playing hero to keep suspicion off himself. We don't know his endgame."

"Assuming he even wants to join the League," Damian added, crossing his arms.

"Please," Dick scoffed. "With all that power? I'd have him join my team in a heartbeat."

"Of course you would," Damian muttered. "You collect misfits like strays."

"You're just mad I didn't let you join," Dick shot back. "Play nice and I might still put in a good word."

"Silence, fake son. I don't need to be on your team that doesn't even have a name yet," Damian said.

"Are we really going back to the 'fake son' thing?" Jason cut in, looking annoyed. "You do know you weren't born the normal way, right? Talia literally jacked Bruce's DNA and tried to make the perfect killer. That doesn't make you special—it makes you a science experiment."

"Enough. All of you," I said, putting an end to it before the bickering turned into sparring.

I turned back to the footage.

"Look... maybe I am wrong about Omni. Maybe he's another Clark—using his power for good, genuinely trying to help. But what if he's not? What if this whole 'new hero' thing is just a smokescreen to get us to lower our guard? That's why I need to find out who he really is. I'm not trying to expose him. I just want to make an accurate judgment. The more I know about him, the more I can trust him not to go rogue."

Dick sighed. "And if the League finds out you went behind their backs?"

I stared at the monitor, voice low. "Then let's just make sure... they never find out."
