Chapter 55 - The Tyrant's Promise

Sami was walking by himself through the jungle, looking for the trail that leads into the city. Not caring if a patrol found him or not. Though the chances of that happening are less likely.

When getting information from the two goblins he captured, the group luckily landed on a day where the leaders are hosting a tournament. The strongest warriors can enter and fight.

The ones who survive might get a better house or more food depending on the leader. If the leader is amused by the showing that is, if not. Well death is the only option.

Using that information Sami decided to challenge one of the leaders to combat. While Anna sneaks into the castle located at the opposite end of the island.

After about twenty minutes of walking through the jungle, sweating profusely. The jungle floor began to become uneven cobblestone that split into two different directions. Sami randomly chose a path and kept walking.

"Ugh it smells so bad", Sami thought wrinkling his nose at the potent smell.

Smelled like rotten eggs and sewage which Sami took as he was getting closer to the city. With the amounts of bones and spoiling meat littered everywhere it's like savages.

Sami felt sad that sentient beings lived like this. He steeled his heart knowing that at any time they could attempt to kill him.

The sun rose higher in the sky, sweat pouring down Sami's skin. The smell made him want to puke. Sami walked past many empty houses, or attempts at houses with how shoddy they looked.

Sami could hear faint chanting as moved through a village. Following the noise Sami could see a huge colosseum in the distance, the chanting almost blowing his ears out.

"Polyphemus!Polyphemus!Polyphemus!", the crowd roared

This seems like an awfully lot of work, breaking into a crowd. It seems like everyone is here anyway.

"WELCOME ONE AND WELCOME ALL THE ANNUAL TOURNAMENT STARTED BY ME, POLYPHEMUS!"Polyphemus said to the crowd standing up from his throne looking over the crowd assembled.

"Polyphemus!Polyphemus!Polyphemus!", the crowd chanted once again Cyclops and Goblins alike.

Polyphemus held his hand up quieting down the crowd. "Today I'll be allowing all challengers to request to fight each other!"

Polyphemus clapped his hands as two cyclops came out of opposite sides of the arena. Both standing around ten feet tall, shorter than Polyphemus's twenty feet.

"From the left corner fighting using the two handed axe known as The Great Wolf, Gorgonax!"Polyphemus introduced.

The crowd went crazy at Gorgonax swinging his Axe around. "GORGONAX, GORGONAX!", they chanted.

Once again Polyphemus raised his hand to quickly quiet down the crowd.

"From the right corner using the classic but always welcome sword and shield, Skarn!"Polyphemus introduced.

This time the crowd wasn't chanting his name as they all looked at the newcomer they've never seen before. Skarn, not caring, still bowed to the crowd before turning to Gorgonax.

"Just like your birth little brother, not even the crowds for thee", Gorgonax taunted. Glancing at Skarn before turning to face Polyphemus.

Skarn also turned to face Polyphemus replying with, "Once I rip head from fucking shoulders we'll see how much the crowds cares for you."

Polyphemus didn't hear the conversation going between the two fighters as he raised his hand. He quickly put his thumb up before sitting down.

Both Cyclops bowed to Polyphemus before starting the fight. The crowds shouted for blood as the two warriors fought. Skarn quickly charged at Gorgonax trying to slam his shield into Gorgonax's body.

Gorgonax steps to the left, sticking his axe out. Skarn couldn't dodge it, falling hard to the ground. Sand getting in his mouth as he landed face first.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk little brother", Gorgonax sneered as he looked down at him. "Still so slow."

Skarn didn't reply as he used his sword to throw sand into Gorgonax's eye. Gorgonax easily dodged the weak attempt, though it allowed Skarn to get to his feet.

Skarn once again went onto the attack and kept slashing at Gorgonax. Gorgonax easily dodged each sloppy attack. A smirk on his face at his brother's pathetic skill level.

Polyphemus sat on the throne looking down on the fighters. Bored as tapped the arm of his throne repeatedly.

"Are you going to keep standing behind me not saying anything human or to scared to speak", Polyphemus

"Huh I'm shocked that you even knew I was there", Sami admitted as he came into view. His form coming into view.

Polyphemus snorted at that. "Unlike the rest of my dumb brethren I actually trained in magic. Plus I'll never forget the stench of what you pathetic humans smell like."

"Interesting here and I thought I smelt good.", Sami sassed as he glared up at Polyphemus. "I'll be sure next time to smell like roses for you."

"You're lucky I'm in a merciful mood today, human. Speak on what you and as a host I will grant it to thee."

Sami tilted his head in confusion. "Seriosuly just like that?", he asked.

"Yes, today is the anniversary of me uniting the cycloops group and forming a partnership with the goblins," Polyphemus answered. "I assume you came for the human to take her, I have no need for her."

Sami's mouth opened then closed as he stared at the giant cyclops in front of him. He didn't know what to think at the moment, since he was prepared for a drawn out fight.

The crowd roared once again, breaking Sami out of his thoughts as Polyphemus stood up from his throne.

"WE HAVE A WINNER", Polyphemus shouted. "THE GREAT WOLF GORGONAX"

Gorgonax roared as he held up the head of his brother.

"I AM THE GREAT GORGONAX!" he cheered.

"GORGONAX, GORGONAX!", the crowd chanted.

Sami's mind began to wonder as Polyphemus continued to address the crowd. Is it a trick? What's the catch? Why would Polyphemus just give up his hostage so easily?

"Take the girl and leave human", Polyphemus told Sami.

"Just like that if we go get her we can leave?"Sami asked for clarification.

"You think I care if she stays here?", Polyphemus replied. "That witch asked for our help in exchange I get to fight Mercer. I never wanted to capture her in the first place."

"I'm so confused right now.", Sami admitted as he rubbed his temples

Polyphemus didn't have a chance to respond as multiple came charging into the room.

CRACK!

The wooden broke off its hinge as it crashed at the feet of Sami. Multiple goblins led by Gorgonax stormed into the room surrounding Sami.

"My liege we came here as soon as we found multiple guards knocked out around the arena", Gorgonax explained as glared down at Sami.

Multiple goblins began to surround Sami, each holding a spear. Causing Sami to step closer to Polyphemus. Lest one of the goblins start a fight that he doesn't want to deal with.

Polyphemus leaned back in his chair, tapping the arm in a soft rhythm as he thought to himself.

"Hmmm, go on human give me a show! fight the champion from the last bought", Polyphemus chuckled as flicked Sami in the head.

Sami didn't have a chance to protect himself as he went flying from the leaders box.

BOOM!

The ground shook with the force that Sami's body landed on the ground.

"Son of a bitch", Sami said out loud as struggled to his feet.

Sami quickly rolled to the right as a giant axe landed right where he was standing. Sami looked up at the cyclops who was cheering at the crowd.

"KILL THE HUMAN, KILL THE HUMAN!", shouted the crowd.

Sami rubbed his hand in frustration as he glanced up at the leader box. Though Polyphemus couldn't be seen since he was sitting on his throne.

Sami quickly activated his ghost mode allowing the axe to go through his neck. Sami, ignoring the lingering pain from the strike, began to think of a way out of this.

"Neat trick human, I wonder how long you can keep it up", Gorgonax mocked as he went to swing the axe again.

Sami fell backwards into the ground, quickly using his ghost mode to go through the sand. He came up behind Gorgonax, using the force of turning tangible to launch him out of the ground.

Sami's fist landed on Gorgonax's jaw, causing Gorgonax to stumble from the blow.

"Nice hit human, I actually felt that one", Gorgonax mocked as he rubbed the part of his jaw that Sai hit.

"That really hurt my hand", Sami cried in his thoughts as he kept clenching and unclenching his hand.

"What's wrong human, you have no words", Gorgonax said as he glanced down at Sami.

"No need to speak to a deadman", Sami replied as he held out his hand.

Gorgonax laughed at Sami, lifting his axe down on the ground. "So the human can talk."

"And the human can also kick your ass", Sami growled as a hammer appeared in his hand.

Ever since learning it from Lyra it's been one of his favorite spells for fighting. Not only does it double your strength, but it also doubles the power of your strikes.

Sami not giving Gorognax a chance to get into a stance quickly disappeared. Before appearing next to Gorognax's head, the hammer cocked back. Sami slammed the hammer into his head, sending Gorgonax flying into the arena wall.

THAWCK!

"Yeah this human is totally going to kick your ass!"Sami muttered to himself as he gently landed on the ground.

Putting the giant hammer onto his shoulder as he waited in the middle of the arena. The crowd seemed quiet after seeing their champion getting sent across the arena.
