Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

The air was quiet as Grant's obnoxious vice played from the pen.

"Satisfied?" Alice asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

"I'm sorry I doubted you," Travis said turning away from her eyes.

"Apology not accepted. I'll see you at home. I have some things to do." She said leaving the office.

"Alice wait. Please wait." He wheels away from the desk, grabbing her hand.

"You're defeating the whole purpose of me coming here. You've seen what you want to see. Please allow me go." Alice was angry that he had so little trust in her. If she hadn't rerecorded the conversation, he would've thought she cheated on him.

"I'm sorry. My behavior was irrational and inexcusable. Please forgive me."

"If I hadn't recorded the conversation, you would've thought that I cheated on you. You would've just left me without even giving me a chance and jumped to conclusions." She leveled him a cold hard stare.

"No. I would've believed you. I was just blinded by jealousy. I would've believed everything you said with or without proof."

"You didn't think it was a trap and pure coincidence that you were sent that picture by an anonymous sender who was trying to stop our relationship?"

Travis visibly reddened. "I'm sorry. It won't happen again. I trust you."

"I hope so." She said softly. "I was hurt that you would even think I would ever do that."

"I'm sorry. It won't happen again." He said hugging her waist.

"I forgive you, husband." She said, threading her hands in his hair.

"Making an heir in the office, I see." A male voice said. Travis and Alice left each other with Travis wheeling himself back and Alice settling on one of the couches in the office.

"Uncle."

"Travis."

"I see you've taken carrying girls. I'm hearing this really silly rumor of her being your wife." He threw his head back in a hearty laugh. "Could you believe that?"

"I could because it's true."

"What?"

"Alice, meet my uncle and one of the shareholders. Uncle, my beautiful wife."

Alice knew well who he was. Lee's there. In her past life, he was the one who betrayed the whole company just for his owin and some other crimes she couldn't remember well.

"Good day, Sir," Alice said with a warm smile, stretched her hand out for a handshake.

He looked at her hands disgustedly l, like she was some worm beneath him, and took it, squeezing a bit too firm.

"Nice to meet you." He said with a fake smile.

He gave a strong shake, almost breaking her fingers, and she returned the fafavoralmost breaking his fingers.

"That's quite a grip you got there." He said, pulling his hand away.

"Oh no. Just me and my feeble bones." She smiled back at him.

"Now that you two are acquainted. Uncle, do you have anything you want to talk to me about?"

"Why yes. Yes, I do."

"As you know. Our company has thrived more and more in the business industry. Topping even the best of the best. We're like the top five marketers in the whole country. Not to talk about the world. We are-"

"Uncle, Get straight to the point. I know you didn't come to give me a boring speech about how far the company has reached."

"Oh." He flushed. " We must be richly represented. The stakeholders have been talking about you a lot these days. Seeing someone in your condition leading gives us a bad view of other companies."

"Someone in my condition? You mean crippled?"

He winced as he continued. "Yes. You're seen as incompetent and I have to agree." He said.

Travis gave him a look, with the thought of continuing.

"I mean it's been years since the car accident. Anyone with that injury would have been able to walk by now. But it's been years and you've been on that wheelchair. Crippled and not healing." He said.

Alice's brows furrowed at this man's audacity.

"So what's your point?"

"We took a vote, and we think you should step out from firing the CEO and focus on the betterment of your health. We should make a new h, wealthy, and perfect man to be the CEO. We only care about the well-being of the company and the image."

"Uncle. You think I haven't been hearing about your plans to remove me from power." He paused.

"The rumors that I'm gay and can't beat an aneir. Tmtgat I would never walk again and the soso-calledgreement you and the shareholders agreed upon.

"I said no such thing! This is rubbish." He stood up like Tracy's had been the one to insult his lilifelongignity.

"I don't regret it, but the only way you would succeed in seeing me leave this seat is if you plot another car accident, and I wouldn't be so careless as last time, Uncle." He said looking at him sharply.

"Look at the crime you're accusing me of. I did no such thing. Your brakes failed. I was in Barbaatttheat at the period of that accident. I did nothing. This is slander to my name. You could be arrested." He said shooting him a hard look.

"I dare you to try." He said giving him an evil look.

"As an uncle and a guardian to you. I came to give you good advice from the goodness of my heart but this is what you come with. You accusee of almost murdering you and giving out false accusations in the presence of this woman?" He said, pointing in the direction of Alice.

"That woman is my wife. Address her with respect. They're not false accusations if they have some atom of truth in them, uncle?"

"You're despicable to think such. I raised you from when you were a little boy since your parents added and this is what I'm paid with. This is attitude and character that I'm paid with?"

"You were given a very large sum along with shares to the same company you're trying to pull from my hands, so what are you talking about?"

His nostrils blew as he looked at Travis with anger. "This wouldn't be the last you hear of me." He said walking away.
