Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Kazi Chieftain’s Gaze

The creature's rough eyes flicked over the small group of invaders strange beings cloaked in shadow, armed yet seemingly unthreatening in their calm demeanor. It let out a low grunt, a sound that could have been a cautious acknowledgment or an ominous warning.

"You come from the shadows," the chieftain rumbled, voice trembling but steady. "We have watched your kind from the darkness, waiting. If you mean no harm, then perhaps… we can speak." Its voice was hoarse, yet there was a spark something ancient and wary flickering beneath its words.

Shailia nodded, sensing the creature's hesitance but also recognizing a flicker of intelligence behind its cautious exterior.

"We seek only peace," she repeated. "It is in your best interest to speak. We can help, if you choose to trust us."

The Kazi leader hesitated, then turned aside briefly to confer with a smaller, scarred figure presumably an elder or advisor. After a moment of low guttural sounds and gestures, it turned back.

"If you truly hold no violence," the chieftain said slowly, "then we will talk. But beware our world is broken, and we are wary. If your words deceive, the shadows will remember."

Assessing the SituationBack aboard the Giza Mtuji, Saumu watched the transmission intently her expression unreadable but her mind sharp, weighing the risks and opportunities.

Kia flicked a sequence on her console, highlighting the minuscule data feeds of the primitive beings in real time.

"They are primitive, yes," Kia whispered. "But their consciousness is surprisingly alert. We might be able to form a tentative alliance if they're intelligent enough to understand peace."

Kizito, watching from a nearby console, clenched his fists subtly, his gut telling him caution was warranted.

"If they are truly sentient," he murmured, "then invading with force would be foolish and dangerous. We must proceed carefully, Saumu. This could be the key an ally in the shadows, perhaps even a hidden threat."

Saumu nodded, glancing once more at the visual feed of the primitive beings. The cautious, wary expressions on their faces tugged at her reminding her of her own people's suffering, and how broken their empire had become.

Decision Time: Diplomacy or DiscretionTurning back to her squad, Saumu weighed her next move. She knew the importance of establishing diplomacy, but she also understood the dangers of trusting primitives or unknown entities.

"Hold position," she ordered softly over the comms. "We wait. If they truly wish to speak, we will listen. Prepare to advance cautiously, but do not engage unless fired upon."

She took a deep breath, selecting her words carefully to the gathered Kazi.

"We come in peace," she echoed mentally, projecting calm and sincerity. "We seek no harm only the chance to learn and to help. Trust us, and perhaps we can both find a new shadow to inhabit."

The primitive creatures hesitated once more, eyes flickering, then slowly, they began leading a few of their own toward the intruders an uncertain first step into an unknown alliance.

Saumu watched, knowing that from this fragile trust, could either rise a new alliance or pit them against an unknown force lurking deep within the roots of this shadowed, fallen world.
