Chapter 76 - Losing Control of the World

As planned, parts of the states near Texas, along with many other regions of the country, were bombed with napalm. The streets went up in flames, and hundreds of thousands of walkers were turned to ash.

But this couldn't stop the infected, and everyone in Texas knew that. That's why it was strictly forbidden to bomb the state unless it was absolutely necessary.

Unless there were millions of infected, no attack that could damage parts of the state would be authorized.

This led to clashes with FEDRA, but now that they were having coordination issues, their complaints didn't go any further.

Now that Alan held power, he couldn't allow those FEDRA idiots to destroy his future domain—so he took them down. He sent many gunship helicopters to intercept the bombers, used drones, and shot down every aircraft that refused to follow orders.

In just a few months, Alan had managed to seal off the main entry points into Texas so that in the future he could reclaim it and take advantage of its strategic location.

Across the cities under his control, military personnel who had deserted joined his ranks. Military bases on the verge of collapse also aligned with Alan, who was pulling the strings to gain even more power.

In a short time, he had become probably the most dominant figure in any state under constant attack from the infected.

This attracted survivors from other states—soldiers and migrants of all kinds. Of course, Alan did not refuse to offer them refuge, no matter where they came from.

Even with all its military power, FEDRA couldn't adapt as well as Alan had. That's why he had to act faster—to take their ground and eliminate any future threats.

"Attention!"

"Salute!"

Inside a warehouse stood about five thousand elite soldiers, all of them members of special forces or commando groups like the Green Berets, Navy SEALs, and police officers who had adapted well to this world.

Their military uniforms were completely black, every part of their bodies covered, and their helmets kept their faces hidden.

The elite of the elite, the best of the best, were now assembled in one place.

They all stood in front of John, the leader of all military power, but at that moment, the man they mostly believed to be the leader was saluting another man.

"Salute our supreme leader, the man who made all of this possible… Salute the leader of this resistance, Alan Rogers."

Alan stood before them, removed his helmet, and revealed his face. "I can say that we have now reached a moment of relative peace, so I feel the need to show you my real face."

"As many of you know, appearance is often tied to existential doubt. Many of you have seen the world out there—I have too—and I can tell you it's more terrifying than it looks."

After a brief pause, Alan said, "I am the leader of this resistance, and you will all follow orders if you want to see a new dawn. Remember this—I'm not here just to be a leader and sit in a safe place… I'm here to serve humanity. You won't be working for me, but for the people who depend on us—for the children who will rebuild entire cities."

"Now our fight is for humanity and our future. Remember to follow the rules, and everything will go as we hope. And from this place, I say to you: Glory to humanity." Alan placed a hand over his chest in salute to his elite soldiers.

"Glory to humanity!"

Everyone had memorized Alan's face, which had lost all signs of youth. Now, his gaze commanded more respect than fear—and that was exactly what he wanted.

A few days later, at an oil station fifty kilometers from an island off the coast of Texas.

"We're dead. No one's coming for us…" A group of men had been trapped at the oil station ever since the outbreak. They had stayed behind when everything fell apart.

Operations from this site had been canceled, and when evacuation was attempted, many began devouring each other.

"Did you hear that?"

"A helicopter. Are they coming here?"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

In an instant, an elite group landed at the oil station and began exterminating the walkers as easily as breathing.

"Don't shoot—we're not like them."

"Are you from the Navy?"

The commanding soldier removed his mask, revealing his face, and said, "The Navy has been restructured. We've recovered about sixty percent of our maritime power, but we're still working. We'll need your help to extract resources from this base. Do you think you can do that?"

"Yes, we can—as long as we get something to eat…"

"Don't worry, you're safe now." Stuart smiled and signaled for them to follow.

They were all stunned to see numerous warships just a few kilometers from the station. Only then did they realize they were in good hands.

At least the country hadn't fallen entirely to the infected.
