When the blade grazed the fabric over Davina's chest, she clenched her teeth and, with a sudden twist of her body, wrenched her own arm out of its socket, shattering bone. Just to escape the fatal blow.

It is infuriating.

Clutching her limp arm, Davina scrambled to her feet, only for me to seize her ankle and yank her back. I swung myself over her, pinning her broken arm to the ground beneath my knee.

"Aaaah!" Davina's scream tore through the air, raw and unrestrained.

"Shhh." My voice was calm, almost tender, as I raised the dagger once again. "We fear not death. Remember?"

"You liar…" She spat through clenched teeth, summoning the last of her strength to spit a mouthful of blood into my face.

I let it happen, letting the mixture of saliva and blood drip down my cheek. A bitter laugh shook in my chest.

"Yes. We are both filthy liars."
