Chapter 154 - Chapter 155: Kids in the Same Boat

"We need to see the credits too," Seneir said.

Stefan pulled four cards from his chest pouch and set them on the table. "Each one has 200,000 credits. No passcodes. You can withdraw anywhere. This is all I have on me—once the goods check out, the rest will be delivered immediately."

"Thank you," Amir said sincerely.

The Pykes across from him didn't understand what Amir meant at first. But seeing that half-there smile, they felt something was wrong.

No. 32 sat in the Traveler's cockpit. This time he wasn't in the co-pilot seat—he was in the pilot's chair.

BD-4 beeped worriedly beside him, like it didn't trust his flying.

No. 32 ignored the droid with no taste. After days of studying, he had already mastered the ship's controls. Solo operation was no problem.

Still, this was his first time acting independently. He was a little nervous.

Not long after Amir and the squid-head left, ships started lifting off from the port—so many that they looked like a swarm—heading who-knew-where.

They were Pyke ships. They'd even mobilized a cruiser.

No. 32 couldn't help worrying about the man called Kain. Based on Amir's description, those ships were heading his way.

But that wasn't his business. His only job was to wait for Amir's signal, then fly in for pickup and get them out clean.

Waiting always felt endless. He thought about Millisyn—another girl who'd come out of the same place as him. Around now she'd be sneaking into the kitchen to steal snacks… he wondered what snacks tasted like.

Tatooine

Obi-Wan had planned it in advance. On this day each week, Owen always made Luke help at the moisture farm, so Obi-Wan didn't have to worry about arriving to an empty house.

Millisyn sat up front on the eopie's saddle, frowning.

This place was too hot. No one should have to live here. The Traveler was better—there was even ice cream.

"Ben, you really lived here for ten years?" Millisyn asked in disbelief.

Obi-Wan chuckled. "Yeah."

"Is Amir going to live here too…? Gudrian is way better. Mona, Yunling, Ahsoka—tons of people—and it's not hot!" Millisyn tugged her hood down. On Tatooine, you needed a hooded robe if you were wandering around.

"He won't stay here forever. I'll be the one who stays," Obi-Wan said.

"Why do you stay here?"

This time Obi-Wan was silent for a long time and still didn't answer. He didn't want Luke to know. He didn't want to affect Luke's normal life, so he didn't explain it to Millisyn either.

Luckily, Millisyn was suffering too much from the heat to care about Obi-Wan's non-answer.

Soon she spotted a lonely house in the desert ahead, surrounded by all kinds of machines she didn't know the names for.

A young boy was helping his father carry something.

"That's him, Ben?" Millisyn asked excitedly.

"Yes. His name is Luke."

Even from far away, Luke saw Obi-Wan. He set down what he was holding and ran toward the slowly plodding eopie.

"Ben!"

"Hello, Luke. Long time," Obi-Wan said as he climbed down and took the rope.

"Hi! My name is Millisyn!" She was thrilled. If they were at Luke's home, she wouldn't have to endure the heat anymore, right?

Luke looked up at Millisyn on the eopie—a blue Twi'lek girl. He'd seen Twi'leks in Mos Eisley, but never one his own age.

"Hi. I'm Luke," he said, looking up. Having a peer—especially a girl—made him a little shy.

"Is your house cool inside?!" Millisyn demanded impatiently.

"Uh… it's okay," Luke said, unsure how to answer. He'd grown up on Tatooine and could tolerate heat, but indoors was definitely more comfortable.

"Perfect!" Millisyn flipped off the eopie and sprinted straight toward the underground home.

Owen watched from a distance and smiled, then signaled Obi-Wan with his eyes—indicating he could come over.

Obi-Wan let out a breath, led the eopie forward, and walked toward the house.

"Luke!" Owen called after putting Millisyn inside. "Take the guests in. Grab something to drink from the cooler!"

Luke brushed hair off his lashes where the wind had blown it and ran after Millisyn.

"Who's that kid?" Owen asked. He seemed in a good mood—probably because Obi-Wan hadn't visited in a long time.

"A new apprentice," Obi-Wan admitted awkwardly.

As expected, Owen's expression cooled immediately.

Obi-Wan hurried to explain. "I don't mean it like that anymore. I just brought Luke a friend. And a gift."

He took the prepared smart combat backpack off the eopie's saddle.

Owen glanced at the painted design and nodded, about to take it and then tell the old man to leave. But since Millisyn was already inside, he had no choice—he reluctantly let Obi-Wan in too.

Beru had prepared chilled blue milk. Millisyn was gulping it down with enthusiasm, milk rings smeared around her mouth without her noticing.

Seeing Obi-Wan enter, Beru stood. "Luke, you and Millisyn go play, alright?"

Luke looked at Millisyn—who had just finished an entire cup of blue milk in one go—and blinked in mild shock. "How old are you?"

"How old? I don't know," Millisyn said.

Luke frowned. "How do you not know?"

Millisyn thought about it. "Nobody told me. Mona doesn't seem to know either. I'll have to ask Amir later…"

"You know Amir?" Luke's eyes lit up.

"Of course! Amir is one of my best friends. Wait—do you know Amir too?" Millisyn suddenly realized what Luke had implied.

Luke grabbed a datapad nearby. "Yeah. He gave me this."

The moment Millisyn saw the familiar datapad, she inhaled sharply.

Poor Luke.

So he was a classmate too.

Her expression toward Luke instantly became warmer.

Shared suffering really did bring people closer.

"Luke, I brought you a gift," Obi-Wan said, stepping over and handing him the backpack.

Luke's eyes widened when he saw the painted design. "Whoa. This is so cool! Thank you, Obi-Wan!"

"It's a smart combat backpack—Amir made it," Obi-Wan said. "Millisyn, teach Luke how to use it."

Obi-Wan sat down and drank blue milk while exchanging a few awkward lines with Owen. Neither seemed bothered.

Millisyn perked up at the mention of the backpack. She had fully figured out how this fighting gadget worked, so she grabbed Luke and dragged him outside.

At dawn, Kain released the exact coordinates of the spice base. In an instant, every prepared underworld group—bounty hunters, smugglers, criminals—launched from every corner of the galaxy toward the target.

Kain was already there. Alone, he crouched on a mountain peak with macrobinoculars, waiting with eager anticipation.

A show was about to start.

And watching chaos unfold was his favorite thing.
