Seeing how serious Amir was, Ahsoka fell silent for a few seconds, then agreed anyway. "Alright. Then we can add a few more ships."
They were short on everything. With hard currency like beskar, they could acquire quite a lot and wouldn't have to live as harshly as they did now.
Amir picked out more than ten ingots and, satisfied, headed back outside.
It was time to go. They'd been traveling nonstop lately—he needed to rest, to settle down and absorb everything.
"You're not going back?" Amir asked Lango one last time. Lango's injuries had already healed, and he was busy around the base with Chewbacca.
He'd been captured and taken offworld while investigating the slavery case. Unlike Veronica, he didn't have an obsession that chained him to this fight. Living a comfortable, lazy life on Coruscant sounded pretty good. There was no need to keep risking himself.
"I'll go back after a while," Lango said. "I want to check on little Jay—he's probably bored to death. But for now… I still want to stay here."
Even Lango's lazy eyes looked like they had a spark again. Amir immediately felt like he'd lost another teammate.
That whole "lazy crew" from Coruscant—lounging around, eating, bragging—had lost one more key member.
Only little Jay was left as the lone sprout. Hopefully he could hold the line.
After giving Chewbacca one last affectionate pat, Amir boarded the ship.
Obi-Wan was eager to return and check on his precious Luke too.
Back in the Traveler's cockpit, Amir felt a flood of mixed emotions. This experience had shown him, fully, what the pinnacle of Sith dark side power looked like.
He could tell Darth Sidious hadn't used his full strength. The Sith Emperor had wanted to take him alive. He wanted Amir to submit to the dark side and become his tool. If Sidious had truly intended to kill him from the start, Amir would have been dead long ago.
But that also proved that Amir still had something Sidious wanted.
Just like when Gideon first captured him—despite already extracting Amir's genetic material while he was unconscious and analyzing it, they still tried to brainwash him, to force his cooperation with the experiments.
So what did they want besides his genes?
Or, more precisely… had they failed to find the answer they wanted in his genes at all?
Kaharlmann had said it too: the implanted segments in Amir's genetics were basically the same as No. 32's, yet the results were wildly different.
Threads tangled into knots. Amir sorted through them again and again, ending with only a few theories—but nothing that counted as real proof.
What was really going on with his body?
No one could say.
So he stopped forcing it. Life itself was a miracle. If his life was just a little more miraculous than most, that wasn't exactly unfair.
"When do I get a lightsaber, Amir?!" Millisyn ran over, demanding.
Amir looked at Obi-Wan for help.
"Millisyn's training really does need a lightsaber now," Obi-Wan said after a moment.
Millisyn was instantly ecstatic, bouncing in place. "Obi-Wan, you're the best!"
"But I have a question for you first, Millisyn," Obi-Wan said, turning serious. Millisyn quieted immediately.
"What is it…"
"You already know our situation. The Jedi are being hunted across the galaxy by the Empire. Joining us means danger. It means responsibility," Obi-Wan said, looking straight into her eyes, speaking slowly and clearly. "Do you truly choose this path?"
Millisyn was startled by Obi-Wan's sudden seriousness. For the first time, she felt like she was facing an important decision about her own life. She was scared—but more than that, she was moved.
For the first time, she felt like she could personally take part in deciding her future, instead of being a tool forced by others.
Millisyn pouted. This is a big deal, so of course she has to think about it.
Amir and Obi-Wan didn't interfere. This decision had to be hers.
But two seconds later, Millisyn cracked.
"Ah—fine, I'm not thinking! I want to be like Amir, okay? I want to hold a lightsaber and go slash-slash the bad guys—especially the ones who hurt me and Mona!"
"So… yeah… I want to be a Jedi," Millisyn said, turning her face away and dropping her head. By the end, she sounded embarrassed.
Amir burst out laughing. "The new Jedi Order is officially open for business—Millisyn, you're the first apprentice!"
"What do you mean 'open for business'?" Obi-Wan shouted at Amir. "You make it sound like a street stall. And aren't you the first apprentice?"
"Me? I'm obviously a founding member!" Amir shouted back, refusing to yield.
"I—I want to join too," No. 32 said softly from the co-pilot seat, raising his hand timidly.
"Of course," Amir said, reaching over and patting his shoulder.
Obi-Wan gave up trying to correct anything and collapsed onto the sofa.
"Lately, you should visit Gudrian more often, Master," Amir said. "Give the kids more care. Ahsoka's already using her intelligence network to search for their families, but it won't be easy. And a lot of the kids already know their parents are dead."
"Many of them said they're willing to learn the Force, to become Jedi. If we truly establish a new Order, they'll all be your students. And when it comes to teaching, there's no one better than you."
Hearing Amir speak like that, Obi-Wan couldn't help imagining it.
He had never seriously considered rebuilding the Order. Order 66—Sidious's clone army hunting Jedi—had been an unstoppable calamity. Even now, Obi-Wan remembered the pain and despair of that day.
After that, he believed the Jedi were the past. All he could do was hide and survive. Luke was his hope.
Not long ago, he had even decided he wouldn't force Luke onto the Jedi path.
But then Amir appeared.
In only a month, dozens of Force-sensitive children had been rescued into their hands—and rebuilding a Jedi Order no longer felt impossible.
Obi-Wan could even picture it: a future battlefield against the Empire, where a new generation of Jedi Knights would stand, tipping the scales with their strength.
Obi-Wan couldn't help smiling with quiet relief.
There was hope again.
The ship soon arrived on Tatooine. Din Djarin, finished with his business, left happily. The rest returned to Obi-Wan's small hut.
In the galaxy, a good ship wasn't just transportation. The Traveler had practically become Amir's home—like a luxurious, oversized flying RV.
Obi-Wan still preferred living in his little hut. According to him, it had taken real effort to get. On this planet, for a fugitive to have a place to live wasn't easy. For the previous ten years, he'd been living in a cave.
Life settled back into normal. Millisyn and No. 32 prepared to study. Amir had to resume training too.
Kain came back that night to report. Nothing had happened at the moisture farm in the past few days. Luke was still, as always, living as a young farmer.
At last, only Amir and Obi-Wan remained in front of the hut. Everyone else had gone to rest. Then Qui-Gon appeared before them.
"I was there, Amir," Qui-Gon said with apology. "But I had no way to help you." Even now, he was still exploring what he could do. A Force spirit's influence on the physical world was painfully limited.
"There's no need to blame yourself, Master Qui-Gon," Amir said with a smile. "I made it out safely, didn't I?"
Qui-Gon's eyes held worry as he looked at Amir. Then he spoke:
"You used the dark side… Even though your will resisted it this time, it has taken root inside you. It remains dangerous. Do not become fascinated with the strength it gave you—if you do, the consequences will be beyond imagining."
