Chapter 139 - Chapter 140: The Outbreak of Darkness

The researchers and other ordinary people behind them seemed to suffocate and collapse to the floor, losing consciousness.

"I'll show you true power. Submit to me, and you can have all of this!" Darth Sidious's voice rose, madness threaded through it as he increased his strength!

Amir's shield shattered completely. His whole body was pinned in midair by an invisible hand, and every inch of him screamed with bone-deep pain.

Under the stimulation of that pain, the muscles in Amir's face twisted and spasmed. His teeth clenched hard enough to grind. Worse, the dark side began battering his mind as well—sharp stabs of agony pulsed through his skull!

So this is the Sith Emperor's strength…

Amir had already assumed Sidious was unimaginably powerful, but he'd still underestimated him by a wide margin. And even now, the Sith Emperor was toying with him—using only a fraction of what he could.

Amir had no way to fight back. The threat of death, unfinished things, people he hadn't said goodbye to—scene after scene surged up in his mind, and fear finally began to spread.

The pain didn't stop. Darth Sidious watched Amir's struggle with obvious enjoyment. He savored it like he was finishing a satisfying piece of craftsmanship—using pain as a chisel to carve deep grooves of fear, leaving them behind forever.

"Submit to me, or die in agony!" the Sith Emperor snarled with a grotesque smile, as if victory were guaranteed. "I created you. You should be honored to become my tool!"

BD-4 desperately nudged at Amir, but it didn't help. It turned toward the shadow ahead and charged without hesitation, extending its shock electrode to attack—yet its fragile body was thrown away by the turbulent force field before it could even get close to Sidious. It crashed down and went still, unable to move.

The pain kept grinding Amir down. Blood began to leak from the corner of his mouth. His entire body flushed red, and the sensation of suffocation started to creep in.

Lowering his head, he saw BD-4 sprawled on the floor.

Rage climbed, step by step.

His lungs were failing. His thoughts blurred. But everything that had happened on the way here flashed through his mind: the corpse-disposal pit reeking of rot, the twisted bodies falling from the pipe, the researchers' cold indifference, the combat droids modified from human bodies!

Beneath the Empire's shining facade lay the filthiest reality. For private gain, countless Force-sensitives were captured and subjected to inhuman experiments. And there were endless clones—many of them never even opened their eyes before they were used like livestock, butchered, and discarded.

Millisyn dragged into darkness by pain. Mona. No. 32, enduring suffering every moment for sixteen years. Every child in the Gudrian base.

And him.

All of them were insects struggling inside this vast web of darkness, unable to escape.

And this was only a tiny, insignificant fragment of the Empire's evil.

Amir remembered Boris's words: One day, they will control you… no one can evade it.

In pain, his remaining consciousness finally failed. The emotions he'd been suppressing broke loose completely, no restraints left. He felt another power hidden inside those emotions—vast, violent, surging.

"The dark side…" Amir thought dimly. "Doesn't matter… there's no escaping it anyway…"

In that moment, Amir saw only Sidious.

The one responsible for everything.

All the rage that had been piling up detonated at once. Right now, Amir wanted only one thing: make the man in front of him pay. Whatever power it took. Whatever it meant for the future.

"I can feel it! Hah—yes! That look!" Sidious roared with laughter, his withered skin pulling into an ugly curve as his voice shook.

"Ahhh—!" Amir screamed.

With that scream, a newborn force burst out of his body. The dark side power binding him was rapidly torn apart. The lights around them began flickering wildly. Then the walls, the vents, the computer in front of him—everything—started trembling violently.

"Good… good…" Sidious's smile widened.

Amir dropped back to the floor. His bloodshot eyes locked onto the Sith Emperor. His lightsaber ignited instantly, and the green blade became the only light left in the room's near-total darkness.

Amir felt the Force inside him surge to a level he'd never known. Everything around him lay inside his awareness. In the next instant, he focused all of that attention on Sidious.

Even with this unprecedented power in his grasp, Sidious was still wrapped in dense black fog in Amir's sight—dark, immense, unreadable.

Sidious was still smiling—genuinely delighted—just like John Morin had been back then.

Disgusting.

But this time, there wouldn't be an accident.

Only the two of them were standing in this room now.

Amir's mind held nothing but boiling fury. He wanted to use his lightsaber to tear open that ugly face and that rotten heart.

He drove the Force inside him to its absolute limit and shot forward at terrifying speed!

Ahsoka covered Veronica as they hid the pack in a concealed corner on Level 150. When they were done, the two exchanged a look and started back up the stairwell.

After only a few levels, Ahsoka suddenly went rigid. Her face darkened.

"What is it?" Veronica nearly ran into her back, asking in confusion.

"Amir…" Ahsoka said blankly.

Seeing Ahsoka like that, Veronica's chest tightened. A bad feeling surged up.

"What happened?!"

"I don't know…" Ahsoka said with a deep frown. She hurriedly tried to call Pax.

"Pax?! What's your situation?" Ahsoka asked as soon as the link connected.

"I—w-we—got—out—base—k-kids—safe—zzzt—" The signal stuttered, barely understandable.

"Where's Amir? Is Amir with you?" Ahsoka demanded.

"N-no—zzzt—he went—center—get d-data—" Pax answered.

"He might be in danger!" Ahsoka said immediately.

"Amir's in danger?" Pax had just climbed out of the sewer, and the signal suddenly improved.

Hearing Pax's words, Obi-Wan stopped. He turned his head and said, "There shouldn't be anything down there that can threaten him…"

Then Obi-Wan felt something shift—far away along the currents of the Force, a familiar ripple changed, and an inexplicable heaviness pressed into his chest.

He stopped fully, his expression turning grim. He reached out, took a child he was carrying, and handed the child to No. 32.

"Get the children to the ship, then go straight to the mid-level port. I'm going back to check," Obi-Wan said. He didn't wait for a reply—he sprinted back the way they had come.

"Obi-Wan went back!" Pax said, watching the retreating figure, reporting to Ahsoka.

Ahsoka checked the level indicator where she was—Level 176. After a brief calculation, she told Veronica, "Amir's on Level 101. We get back to the ship, go to that level's port!"

With that, the two of them ran upward at full speed.
