Chapter 5 - Home?

Vanessa:

I was drawn back to a mindful state when our car came to a halt.

Where could Scot have gone? It was getting late—far later than it should be for him to disappear without a word.

I stormed out of the car, enraged, only to be embraced by the huge fountain lying in front of the compound.

I allowed my eyes to float in admiration as I caught sight of the manor stationed in front of me. I expected nothing less from a man coming from a wealthy family of such high prestige.

I grabbed my bag and proceeded into the mansion without looking back at the two guards who followed behind.

I've longed for a shower, and I think now will be the perfect time to have one.

Several servants greeted me warmly, offering to.carry my nag, but i declined with a polite shake of my head.

Stepping into the house, and I was awestruck by what I saw. I had thought the exterior embellishment of the manor was astonishing, but the interior was something else entirely.

I allow my eyes to graze themselves as I gawk around in admiration.

Every furnishing was neatly inaugurated to blend with the fitting of the manor.

A maid approached me, gently taking my bag from me before gesturing toward the satirs. I followed her silently as we climbed, eventually arriving at a massive bedroom.

The maid stood still and watched me sit on the bed while my eyes continued to gratify themselves. "Do you need me to unload your bag?" She asked and I shook my head.

"No, I'll do it myself," I told her.

"If you need anything, just press the button close to the bed, and I'll be here," she said, pointing towards a small panel near the headboard, and I tilt my head to follow her direction.

"Oh, right" I nodded once i spotted it,and she smiled in return.

"I'll be leaving now" She bowed and turned to leave, shutting the door softly.

Alone, I stood up from the bed and unloaded my bag myself. Despite my exhaustion, I couldn't bring myself to let the maids handle everything.

Old habits die hard---I'd been doing my chores since I was a teenager. Becoming a billionaire's wife wouldn't change that.

After putting everything in place, I proceeded to the bathroom to have my long-desired shower.

Turning on the water, I exhaled deeply as the warmth collided with my skin, and after what seemed like hours in the bathroom, I towel-dried my hair and strolled back into the bedroom.

Back in the bedroom, I picked up my phone. 11:30pm. Still no sign of Scot— it was late, and worry began to creep in.

Back in the bedroom, I picked up my phone. 11:30 PM. Still no sign of Scot—it was late, and worry began to creep in.

I heaved a sigh and threw back my phone on the king-sized bed. Turning on my heels to go get dressed, my phone rings.

Sliding the green answer button, I held it to my ear.

A familiar voice greeted me.

"Hello Mrs Greyson."

"Hello, Kate. How are you doing?" I asked, ignoring the name she used to address me.

"Very well. Thank you for asking. I just wanted to let you know all the arrangements for Elvis's chemotherapy are all set, and the doctor would like to meet with you tomorrow before the commencement of the treatment," she finished.

"That is lovely to hear. I will surely be there. Thank you so much, Kate"

"No need to thank me. Anything for my cute little husband," she said, and we both laughed.

Kate, a nurse at the hospital where Elvis is.

She has been of great help to me since we arrived at the hospital and has taken it upon herself to make sure Elvis is cared for.

I had to take her number, as she was the only nice nurse in the big lonely hospital. I had to say— she's the only person who has made me laugh since coming back to this city.

The only friend I've made."I'll see you tomorrow, Kate," I said, smiling.

"Alright then… oh, and congratulations on your wedding"

"Oh, thank you… And how did you know" I asked sharply. I didn't expect her to know since I never said anything about getting married to her.

"Who wouldn't? It's all over the news," she announced.

"The news? Oh….i see. Alright then. Goodbye Kate" I hung up and placed the phone on the nightstand

I never knew the news would circulate so fast. But then again, that's what happens when you marry the most eligible heir to the richest family in the city.

I hadn't even checked the headlines.

I changed into pajamas and back on the bed.

Images of Elvis drifted into my mind, bringing a gentle calm.

I might not love the man i married, but the thought that Elvis could finally get better filled me with hope.

Waking up the next morning, I realised Scot hadn't come back home the previous night. I had dropped a text and even called before dozing off the previous night, but none was returned.

A knock came on the door and I hurried and opened it it—it was a maid.

maid.

"Good morning, Mrs Greyson," ahe said, bowing slightly.

I nodded. "Good morning."

"Dinner is ready," she told me.

"Alright. I'll be down in a minute" I said, giving her a smile.

After brushing my teath and showering quickly, I headed downstairs.

The dining room was extravagant, witha table that could host a banquet. I took a seat and breakfast was served, and without hesitation, I dug in.

"Did Scot come back home yesterday?" I asked the maid who was standing nearby.

"No, Mrs Greyson. I didn't see him," she replied.

Turning back to my food, my meal was interrupted by my ringing phone.

"Hello," I answered.

It was Scot's father.

"Come to the LA medical centre. Scot is at the hospital."

My spoon clattered against the plate, and I stood up.

"What!?"
