Jayvaughn watched Axel's brief moment of shock and a genuine flicker of panic before his boyfriend's eyes went smooth and bright again. The silence stretched for a beat too long, enough for a suspicion to settle in Jayvaughn's mind: maybe Axel was hiding something after all.
Axel quickly recovered, letting out a forced, slightly manic laugh. "Ahhh, Jay, what on earth could I be hiding from you?" he said, shaking his head. "I'm not hiding anything. How can you take the incoherent ramblings of a drunken man seriously?"
Jayvaughn narrowed his eyes, unconvinced. "Well, various scholars have proven that whatever comes out of a person's mouth while drunk is often rooted in the truth," he countered, his tone skeptical. "Even if it's mixed with a little bit of nonsense, the core of it is usually true."
