After a long day, Jayvaughn was more than happy to finally leave the office. With Jaimie sound asleep in the backseat and Axel humming along softly to the music playing through the car stereo, the evening felt strangely... peaceful.
By the time they arrived at the condo, the sun had already dipped below the horizon, casting a golden haze across the city skyline. Jayvaughn parked the car, careful not to wake the little boy still dozing in the back. But the moment they stepped inside Axel's apartment, Jaimie stirred in Axel's arms. His eyes blinked open like he had a sixth sense for unfamiliar places.
"This isn't grandma's house," he mumbled sleepily, rubbing his eyes.
"You're right," Axel said with a chuckle. "This is Uncle Axel's house. Cool, right?"
Jaimie didn't reply. He just nodded groggily and clung to Axel's shirt while taking in his surroundings with big, curious eyes.
