Chapter 2 - Chapter 02— The Mission, Part 1

The next day, the two brothers were watching the bishop's presentation. The old priest was performing his "miracles": rebuilding a broken arm, and completely transforming a stone into a golden statue. Clearly, this caught the brothers' attention.

— Hmm... well, I don't think his spirit's power is just about changing shapes. It must also involve the material of the item.

Kura said this and then left the place with his brother. The duo headed to the back of the temple of the gods, where that bishop presided.

Quickly, the until-then masked brother used a technique granted by his spirit's power — in this case, an electrical tracking based on people's heartbeats. He located one of the temple's priests, who was in a room near a window.

— Bingo! Arold, wait here. I'll get the information and then give you the signal.

He immediately clung to a pillar using electromagnetism to attract himself to the steel it was made of, climbing up to the window where the priest was. He entered the room by jumping through it, which obviously startled the religious man, who turned around only to take a punch to the face, followed by a small electric shock to his ear. That was one of Kura's techniques — one that uses electricity to manipulate the person struck.

— Alright, take me to the bishop's office. Also, make sure those under your command let my brother in... say he's a high-class member of the religious order.

The priest did what the man asked. There was no one else at his level around, since everyone was assisting the bishop in his presentation. This one man who stayed behind had been left to handle paperwork.

The masked brother was led to the bishop's office and began rummaging through the documents, while the younger brother entered through the back door carrying some sound equipment, asking to be taken to the temple rooftop.

Kura finally found what he was looking for: a bunch of documents about a revolution.

— Oh, so the old instructors were right!

He remembered the mission he had been given — a school test for training new military officers, where each student was assigned a revolutionary to eliminate. The involvement of that temple's priest with the revolution had just been confirmed, and Kura killed the priest without mercy, frying his brain with a shock.

— I'm sorry... but I have my own reasons for wanting to pass this test.

The young man then hid the priest's corpse under the bishop's desk and waited there until he returned.

Arold was installing the equipment he had brought, up on the temple rooftop. It was two speakers. He ran the wire down to a subterranean corridor of the temple to leave them there, making it easier for his brother to activate them using electricity.

After a few minutes, the bishop returned, heading straight to his office. However, he was soon surprised to find the young man sitting in his chair.

— Hey, kid, who the hell are you and how did you get in here?!

The "miracle worker" asked, but the young man's response came quickly, with a small bolt of lightning launched at the bishop meant to kill him instantly. However, the old man managed to dodge in time.

— Who am I? Well, I'll be short and to the point...

He stood up, slamming his right hand on the bishop's desk, knocking over some pens and a cup that were on it, sending everything crashing to the floor.

— My name is Kurayami. I'm a military trainee. And to become a real soldier... I need to take your head to my examiners!

The intruder took a fighting stance, staring the bishop down as he continued:

— Nothing personal, but I need the money from this job to help some people... So when you end up in hell, don't hold a grudge against me… you get it, right?

Some of the bishop's subordinates ran to him, asking what had happened.

— An intruder's in here! Some damned soldier broke into the temple! Check if anyone else came with him. If you find them, beat the bastards and kill them!

They immediately remembered the younger brother of the soldier and went after him in the underground.

Naturally, Kura tried to stop them, unleashing a large electric bolt. However, the leader of the place changed the shape of the wall into metal, attracting the bolt to it and successfully stopping the current. Staring the boy in the eyes, the old man responsible for so many miracles shouted harshly:

— Your fight is with me, you damn bratty soldier!
