Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Shadows in the Night

The city was alive with movement and noise, but beneath its vibrant surface lurked danger. Xie Shuai had spent weeks training at Master Liang's dojo, honing his skills both in body and mind. Each day, he felt his strength grow — not just physically, but in his resolve to protect his family.

One night, as he walked through the dark alleyways on his way back to the inn, a cold breeze swept past him. The shadows seemed to stretch and flicker, playing tricks on his eyes. Suddenly, a rough voice stopped him.

"Hey, newbie," a thug hissed, stepping out from the darkness. Two others flanked him, eyes gleaming with greed and cruelty. "We heard you're looking to do good, huh?"

Xie Shuai clenched his fists, instinctively readying himself for a fight. "Leave me alone," he said calmly, but firmly.

The thug laughed. "What's the matter? You think you're tough? Not so much yet, kid."

The thugs moved closer, their intentions clear. From a corner, a figure appeared—a man with a scar across his face, wearing dark robes. He stepped into the moonlight, his eyes glinting with menace.

"Is there a problem here?" the man asked softly but threateningly.

The gang members hesitated, sensing danger. The scarred man chuckled. "You wanna survive in this city? Then learn to be smart. Let's see if you can show some real strength."

Suddenly, the street was filled with the sound of fighting. The scarred man moved swiftly, his moves precise and deadly. Xie Shuai watched closely, recognizing that this was no ordinary thug but a master of street combat.

Within moments, the gang was defeated. The thugs fled in terror, dropping their weapons and disappearing into the shadows. The scarred man looked at Xie Shuai and nodded. "You have potential. But you're still too soft. If you want to survive, you need to learn the ways of real strength—sometimes means standing alone against chaos."

Xie Shuai felt a surge of respect and gratitude. "Thank you. Who are you?"

The man hesitated, then gave a small smile. "Name's Li Feng. I've fought these streets for years. If you're serious, I can teach you a few tricks—but it will cost you."

Xie Shuai understood that in this city, power came at a price. He nodded without hesitation. "I want to learn. I need to be strong — for my family and for myself."

Li Feng's eyes gleamed sharply. "Good. Then come with me tomorrow. There's much to teach you—about fighting, about survival, and about the darkness that lurks in the shadows."

That night, Xie Shuai lay awake in his room, contemplating the new knowledge he was about to gain. He knew the road ahead was dangerous, filled with enemies and uncertainties. But he also knew that each step brought him closer to his goal.

He thought of his mother's gentle face and his brother's uncertain future. He clenched his fists and whispered to himself, "I will become the strongest. No matter what it takes, I will protect them."

And in the darkness, a new resolve was born—that he would face whatever glory, pain, or danger the city had to offer.
