Mason Nightshade's body stiffened.
Her breath lightly brushed past like a feather, stirring his heartstrings. Mason looked down to see her long, curled eyelashes gently drooping, her eyes closed, a satisfied expression on her face.
He chuckled silently.
She always inadvertently stirred his calm waters, yet remained unaware.
"Are you still mad at me?" His rough fingertip brushed over her brow, stroking her delicate, elegant eyebrows. Mason's eyes lowered slightly, his murmuring tinged with a hint of sorrow, "What do I have to do to make you not be mad at me?"
"In the past, did you go through all of this? But still acted happy in front of me as if nothing happened. I was oblivious to everything. How painful it must have been for you to force a smile in front of me then."
"But I knew nothing at all!"
Mason's heart suddenly ached.
If not for the chance of rebirth.
If not for the miracle that allowed him to live again and go through all this once more.
