Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: A Matter of Life and Death!

When Sun Zhe spoke, everyone immediately turned to look at him.

Previously, no one had paid him any mind or even noticed him.

Hospital Director Meng Hailiang only just now registered Sun Zhe's presence and asked, "Miss Gu, may I ask who this is…?"

Gu Lingxue glanced at Sun Zhe, suddenly feeling embarrassed. "This is my newly recruited assistant, Sun Zhe."

Upon hearing that Sun Zhe was just an assistant, and a newly recruited one at that, the crowd dismissed him. They assumed his earlier remark was just an impatient outburst. Even Gu Lingxue had said nothing could be done; a mere assistant certainly wouldn't have a solution.

But Sun Zhe wasn't thinking about any of that. As a healer, human life was more important than anything else!

He set down his medical kit, walked to the bedside, and swiftly lifted Old Master Li's shirt, revealing a chest that was little more than skin and bones.

"Sun Zhe, what do you think you're doing?!" Gu Lingxue snapped angrily.

Ignoring her, Sun Zhe stared intently at Old Master Li, secretly activating his Yin Yang X-ray Vision while pressing a hand against the old man's chest.

"Sun Zhe!" Gu Lingxue shouted, hastily reaching out to pull him away.

"Director Gu, we can't delay any longer! I'm saving his life!" Sun Zhe exclaimed urgently.

But Gu Lingxue seemed not to hear him. She said furiously, "Get out of my sight! This is no place for you!"

"Sun Zhe, you need to remember your position! You're just an assistant! You're a village doctor from the countryside; what makes you think you can save anyone? You're not helping, you're harming him!"

Hearing this, the others in the room grew even more disdainful. So, the boy wasn't just an assistant—he was a village doctor, too.

At this point, besides being mortified, Gu Lingxue was also deeply worried that Sun Zhe would get her into trouble. After all, he was her assistant, and any disaster he caused would implicate her directly.

She knew Old Master Li's identity was extraordinary; he was a retired general from the battlefield. Although he was now retired and held no official position, many famous and powerful figures were once his students. For starters, his son was the current chief of Yangcheng's East Hua District.

If Sun Zhe dared to act recklessly with such a distinguished person, ten lives wouldn't be enough to pay the price.

"Sun Zhe, I never should have brought you here!"

Just then, District Chief Li strode over and spoke coldly, "Boy, do you have any idea who my father is? How dare you treat him so recklessly? You must have a death wish!"

Meng Hailiang shook his head. "We should just have security escort him out. He's an embarrassment, and he's just getting in the way."

A look of desperation crossed Sun Zhe's face as he scanned the crowd. "Why won't any of you believe me? This is a matter of life and death. Do you really think I would joke about something like this?"

"The old man is in critical condition! To be blunt, any more delays and he will die! Why can't you just trust me this one time? I am confident I can save him!"

Meng Hailiang's expression was full of contempt. "On what grounds? You're a village doctor who's probably never even attended a proper medical college. Why should we believe a word you say? I think you're just trying to slander our hospital!"

Hearing this, Sun Zhe bit his lip, knowing it was futile to reason with them. He suddenly strode to the bedside and raised his hand.

SLAP!

He struck Old Master Li's chest with a heavy palm. To anyone watching, it looked like a simple, frustrated outburst of anger. In reality, he had concentrated True Qi into his palm. Using his Yin Yang X-ray Vision, he locked onto the cluster of chaotic energy inside Old Master Li's chest cavity and drove the True Qi through the Chest Acupoint, completely dispersing it.

The room fell deathly silent.

Everyone stared wide-eyed, in utter disbelief.

"Outrageous!" District Chief Li roared as he came to his senses, immediately calling his security guards to restrain Sun Zhe. "Kid, my father is a decorated war hero! You dare to humiliate him like this? You can spend the rest of your life in prison!"

At that moment, the young woman beside District Chief Li stormed forward, her beautiful eyes welling with tears. She raised her hand and slapped Sun Zhe squarely across the face.

"If anything happens to my grandpa today, you're a murderer, and I will never forgive you! My grandfather risked life and limb on the battlefield for Hua Country when he was only twenty! Who do you think you are to humiliate him like this?!"

Realizing the situation had spiraled out of his control, Meng Hailiang hastily tried to distance the hospital from the incident. "District Chief Li, Miss Li, this has nothing to do with our hospital! Sun Zhe is just a junior assistant who hasn't even been formally hired, so he's not one of our employees!"

Gu Lingxue stared coldly at Sun Zhe without a word. This kid is insane.

His eyes bloodshot, District Chief Li suddenly yelled, "Someone, take him away! Send him directly to the police!"

COUGH, COUGH, COUGH…

Just then, Old Master Li, who was lying on the bed, began to cough violently. His eyes snapped open, and he shot upright.

Everyone jumped in surprise, their heads whipping toward him.

HAHAHAHA!

After a bout of coughing, Old Master Li burst into hearty laughter.

"That feels so much better! HAHAHAHA… That stagnant energy has finally scattered! It was torturing me to death!"

He suddenly paused, realizing he was lying in a hospital bed, surrounded by a sea of people in white coats. Even old Gu's granddaughter was here. He didn't need to ask to guess what had happened while he was unconscious.

He cupped his fists in a formal gesture of respect. "May I ask which Divine Doctor it was who saved this old man's life? I am eternally grateful!"

"…"
