Chapter 16 - Chapter 11: Governor Luthor

"You're joking, I generally don't do things that break the rules." Li Xin looked at Heisenberg and said seriously.

"Haha, you're a funny one, but no," Heisenberg pulled up a chair, "come, sit, the Abyssal Worm is uncontrollable, its eventual outcome is always out of control, it's just a matter of time."

"Professor, I've heard there's a treasure called the Divine Relic, bestowed by the gods. If you obtain it, you'll receive great power. Is that true?" Li Xin's eyes sparkled with light and longing.

Awakened individuals would know some, and the desire for power is a common trait among them. Heisenberg thought for a moment and said:

"The answer is yes, the Divine Relic will release the remaining divine power, but this is the power of the gods, not humans. Mortals have to consider whether they can pay the corresponding price. Spiritual Ability is one's own, no matter the strength or weakness, it is ultimately one's own. The Divine Relic is the gods', no matter the outcome, it must be returned to the gods."

Once the Divine Relic is lost, the probability of death is high, and even if you barely survive, all your abilities will disappear.

Seeing that Li Xin still wanted to ask, Heisenberg waved his hand with a smile, "I have a question here, I heard that the Licker you encountered still retained rationality, and was even cunning?"

Li Xin thought about the rules, Heisenberg was also within the system, the case was already closed, and there were no extra requirements, "I'm not sure if it can be called rationality, but it did have a hunting instinct."

"Could it still speak human language?"

"Yes."

"Did it turn to ash after it died?" Heisenberg frowned and continued to ask.

"Yes, that's what I remember."

"The ash, was there anything special in it?" Heisenberg asked quickly.

Li Xin was stunned, "Huh?"

Seeing Li Xin's expression, Heisenberg also knew that the other party didn't have more information.

"Professor, I have a few more questions here."

"We'll talk to this extent for free, we'll discuss more next time we meet." Heisenberg showed a kind but very decisive smile, took his briefcase, and left.

Li Xin opened his mouth, still feeling inexperienced. He had many questions about the Divine Relic, but couldn't press further, or it would draw attention.

He originally thought that after joining Night Patrol, he could quickly find information related to the Divine Relic, but found there was nothing at all. When chatting with Mo Feng, he tried to subtly steer the conversation there, but most in Night Patrol didn't have Divine Relics; those who did either died or became big shots.

Directly inquiring is taboo since it's a highly private matter.

Mo Feng and the others were curious when they were young too; who wouldn't want power? But reaching this age, they all knew that power is a double-edged sword, without proper skill, don't take on work involving Divine Relics, which are dangerous.

That castle is either in the Spirit Realm or the Abyss. There, not only are there Divine Relics but also worms, with either cults or Church doctrines, all with their own lineage and style. This kind of place where everything converges is the hardest to handle.

From what Heisenberg said, the Church has the most extensive mystical knowledge, followed by the Canon Law School, offering a broader range of knowledge. Night Patrol are just professional workers not doing theoretical research.

Li Xin didn't pay much attention, the current situation was already good, aiming too high would be detrimental, consolidating his position was needed first.

During these two days of using the Hex Gun, he could very comfortably find the feel for the gun much faster than expected, mainly because the weapon is excellent. Night Patrol's equipment was indeed sophisticated; he wouldn't want his old junk even if he could find it.

Li Xin knew that someone was observing him, so he practiced very earnestly. In such a place, you can't be too cowardly; those with no skill and looked down upon won't have good days ahead, and you can't be too arrogant; in the adult world, one should know propriety and give face to seniors.

Li Xin shot very slowly, but accurately, seriously finding the feeling, as some sensations are distant memories, and practice makes perfect no doubt.

These were just regular practices, but Li Xin enjoyed it immensely. He was assigned to the fifth squad, with Kurt as the captain. At present, the fifth squad was out on a mission and hadn't returned, so Li Xin was relatively relaxed, even able to read the newspaper after training.

The newspaper is the main news tool on the Dao Yuan Continent, offering a variety of options. Night Patrol's newspaper differs from the outside world, mainly including the Hex Bird Report and Church Internal Reference.

The Hex Bird Report covers a wide range, with peculiarities and news from the Dao Yuan Continent, while the Church Internal Reference focuses on internal affairs of the Church, also involving some hidden events, which the Underground City isn't in contact with at all.

Li Xin was now eager for knowledge, and with Kurt absent, no one controlled him. Mo Feng only managed the most basic entrance, and otherwise cared not, giving him considerable freedom.

Night Patrol has a data room, storing, besides case files, the Hex Bird Report, and Church Internal Reference all neatly organized by Kathy, though in limited numbers; previously only Kathy liked reading newspapers here. These were her means of entertainment.

Now with Li Xin added, tea-drinking and newspaper reading for a newcomer like him seemed a bit improper, always capable of being ended at any moment.

Any country's or department's newspaper is certainly geared towards propaganda and unified thought, but contains lots of implicit information. Li Xin hoped to find what he wanted within, reading quickly, nearly skimming ten lines at once. Both newspapers were periodicals, sometimes once a week, sometimes once a month.

The recent Hex Bird Report occasionally included information on the Celestial Capital Canon Law School, not particularly positive; for official media to state it that way meant changes were coming. Li Xin also heard that Luo Jin was going to concurrently serve as the Grand Wind Discipline Officer of the Canon Law School, which meant he was attached to a well-connected individual.

Time flew by while reading the newspaper, apart from occasionally becoming familiar with weapons on the training ground, he was almost invisible, yet he became increasingly familiar with Kathy, since each borrowing had to go through her. A woman wouldn't have prejudice against a bookworm or someone who reads the newspaper; she might even think it demonstrates ambition.

Life at home also stabilized; Xueyin joined the Divine Favor Grace Class, launched by the Luthor Potter Grand Governor in collaboration with the Moon God Church. The Church provided funding while City Hall offered the venue and effort.

Speaking of Luthor, he's the most legendary figure on the Dao Yuan Continent for the past two hundred years, his life full of dramatic ups and downs leading to the peak.

Mentioning Luthor inevitably brings up the Potter Family. The Potter Family is a prominent clan in the Li Long United Kingdom. Luthor himself was a minor noble of fallen status, left with only a baron's title, yet married the daughter of the Potter Family.

More accurately, he married into the Potter Family and directly changed his surname, hence the name Luthor Potter. For this, he endured a significant period of ridicule and criticism from his political adversaries.

However, how could the bird know the ambition of the swan? The most famous case of the world's greatest opportunist emerged, he soon embarked on an illustrious life grand enough to reach the pinnacle of knighthood while creating the Hex-Tech Compendium. Through campaigns west and east, the current Li Long United Kingdom was established, and a parliamentary monarchy was founded, with national powers wielded by the Grand Governor and Council.

Following alliances and bold reforms, he built the strength of Li Long, shaping it entirely in his image. Now the Li Long United Kingdom is exactly as he molded it.
