Chapter 29 - Chapter 24: Family Dinner

In life, there are always some scheming and plots, and at times, it's not just that. There's something called fate between people.

Because it was confirmed that there was a mission to execute, the Night Patrol spent less time wandering around. After work, Luo Jin and Li Xin went home together, and their families had already been notified.

Luo Jin's previous refusal wasn't intentional; it was just a habit of being alone. As soon as he entered the house, it was Xueyin who opened the door. The little girl sized up Luo Jin, tilting her head. The always stern and unsmiling captain of the Night Patrol forced a smile, fearing he might scare the little girl. But Xueyin was very polite and didn't judge by appearance, "Uncle Luo, everyone's waiting for you."

Everyone?

A question mark popped up in Luo Jin's head. In the kitchen, two beautiful chefs were busy – Lin Fei and Kathy were both wearing home skirts, showing off their white, beautiful legs. Lin Fei's were cool white, and Kathy's were warm white. When the two stood together, Lin Fei indeed showed her mature feminine charm. Perhaps it was because the kitchen was a bit hot, her pretty face was white with a hint of blush.

Kathy, looking at her figure and skin, had cast several envious glances. This natural cool white skin was enviable. Despite Kathy having a pretty good figure and skin, the gap between a young girl and a mature woman was evident.

How could such a meaningful family dinner lack the Little Rich Lady of fantasy?

Li Xin was very loyal. Last time, Kathy volunteered. Upon unintentionally hearing that Luo Jin was going to Li Xin's house for dinner, she got as excited as if she were meeting her parents for the first time, claiming she always wanted to meet Xueyin. The sooner, the better, and Li Xin, of course, happily agreed. A variety of ingredients, big and small, were sent over by the afternoon at Kathy's behest.

Judging by their slightly sweaty appearance, the two had been busy for a while, "What are you doing here?"

Luo Jin felt a bit overwhelmed, no wonder Kathy, who never left work early, was missing.

"Boss, it's off-duty time, personal freedom. I'm good friends with Sister Fei. You can come for a meal, why can't I?" Kathy wasn't afraid of Luo Jin, bantering with the boss was a daily pleasure.

Luo Jin smiled wryly, offering no resistance.

The two men, well aware of themselves, didn't interfere and chatted in the living room, avoiding work topics since Xueyin was around.

Soon, a table full of steaming delicacies was laid out. Being a frequent market-goer, Li Xin knew how expensive this table was. There were items he had never seen before, indicating it was beyond his reach. The enticing aroma made his mouth water uncontrollably, with his hand sneaking towards the plate, slap~~~

Aunt Fei glared. Hmm... she seldom did that now, though it once had some intimidation; now it carried a hint of homely allure.

After the slap, she picked a piece up and popped it into Li Xin's mouth, "Go wash your hands."

Oh~~~ Delicious!

Luo Jin and Lin Fei, having met due to past events six years ago, tacitly didn't bring it up.

The most excited were Kathy and Xueyin. The house hadn't been so lively in a long time. Despite Kathy's family wealth, the home atmosphere wasn't warm. The large table created distance, with each harboring their own thoughts. And most crucially, this was her first family dinner with Luo Jin.

The small home was warm. Everyone sat shoulder to shoulder, creating a familial feel.

The Little Rich Lady was over the moon. Originally, Lin Fei was worried about the atmosphere, but Kathy was already elated, "Come on, let's toast to our gathering, no going home sober tonight!"

Luo Jin glanced at Kathy, unyieldingly saying, "You're allowed one glass only."

Kathy widened her eyes, pouting, while Lin Fei smiled, nudging Kathy, "Looks like Kathy still listens to commands after work, that's good. Everyone, help yourself, moderation is key."

Kathy's cheeks were rosy, feeling Lin Fei's support. After Ah Xin came, her relationship with Luo Jin advanced by leaps and bounds. Her diary could now be filled every day, turning hopeless anticipation into dreams of the future. It was sheer happiness.

Kathy only drank one glass, while Lin Fei, Li Xin, and Luo Jin drank quite a bit. Kathy's exuberance brought much joy to the dining table, controlling the atmosphere tightly, and everyone was happy.

When it was time to leave, Luo Jin was responsible for sending Kathy home. Luo Jin thought it wasn't a good look, but Lin Fei sealed it with one sentence – it had nothing to do with drinking or how much, it was about gentlemanly etiquette.

This time, Kathy joyfully scored again.

Seeing the two off onto the carriage, and looking at the still stiff Luo Jin, Li Xin worried his head off, hoping that after Auntie of fantasy's wish was fulfilled, she wouldn't forget him, the well-digger.

After this family dinner, Lin Fei felt at ease. The joyful mood had her drinking happily again. She knew well the city was different from the Underground City. In the Underground City, as long as you were strong and fierce enough, you could stand your ground. But in the city, the power of class was the foremost, requiring someone with status to support Li Xin.

She herself had experienced the ups and downs of life. Although Luo Jin didn't say much, he held a type of appreciative regard for Li Xin as a nephew.

During the meal, it was learned that Li Xin was leaving the Night Patrol to be specially recruited into the Canon Law School. She breathed a long sigh of relief, finally not having to worry every day. For someone his age and capability, entering the Canon Law School was undoubtedly a bright path.

The Night Patrol was seen by everyone as a high-risk job, and indeed, the injury and fatality rates were high. But most Night Patrol themselves didn't fear it. Even if they survived, staying in that environment for long changed their mindset and living habits, making it hard to return to normal life.

Canon Law School, however, was different. It was a serious place for cultivating Kingdom elites. Since Grand Governor Luthor founded it, it became popular across Dao Yuan Continent. Other countries attempted to emulate it, turning it into a cradle of talent. Graduates would enter various government and military departments, with outstanding ones even receiving an audience with the King.

For people from lower classes, it was a ladder to transcend class, or even become a noble. Lin Fei, coming from a wealthy family, had no issue with vision, and indeed, the Canon Law School was the top choice for Awakened ones.

Now, with Li Xin finally able to enter the Canon Law School and lead a normal life, she was thrilled. Xueyin, upon hearing the news, was bouncing around with joy. She didn't understand much, but she knew entering the Canon Law School was the best path for outstanding individuals.

Everyone was happy.

Returning home, Li Xin saw Aunt Fei still had a smile on her face. All the wine on the table was empty. It seemed to be the first time he saw her so relaxed, "Aunt Fei, you're this happy?"

"Come here," Lin Fei domineeringly beckoned.

Li Xin obediently went over, suddenly enveloped in Lin Fei's arms like when he was a child. The child she picked up had grown up, now wriggled slightly, then dared not move.

This damned weather, why is it so hot...
