Generally speaking, in the cultivation realm, the higher stage between the cultivator or the pet beast is considered the true stage of the beast taming cultivator.
For example, if the beast taming cultivator is at the Golden Core stage and the pet beast is at the Nascent Soul stage, then the beast taming cultivator is considered to be at the Nascent Soul stage.
