Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Playing the self-sacrifice trick, shouldn't you invest a little?

The hospital room door was pushed open, and a man in a suit quickly walked in.

"Bella is awake, how is she feeling? Should we call the doctor?" The man looked at the girl on the bed, a hint of worry in his eyes.

Bella looked at the man in front of her, her voice raspy, "Much better, Dad."

Francesca's face turned somewhat sour upon seeing this, "Call the doctor for what? It's just the second floor, how badly could she have fallen?"

"Can't you say a little less when the child is like this?" Samuel turned back, speaking somewhat displeased.

"Dad, why are you yelling at mom? Isn't this all her own doing? Getting dumped and then jumping off the building, how shameless can she be?" Daniel said disapprovingly.

Bella turned her gaze to the boy who spoke, her own brother, yet at this moment, he used the most vicious words to attack her, defending Anna.

"Dad, I didn't jump off the building." Bella suddenly spoke up.

Samuel was slightly taken aback, turned to look at the girl on the bed. This whole thing had originally made him very angry, angry at Bella's immaturity.

But Bella said she didn't jump off the building, then how did she fall from the second floor?

"I was just standing by the balcony, someone pushed me, that's how I fell." As she spoke, the frail girl's eyes instantly turned red.

The sight of her aggrieved patience pricked Samuel's heart, when he had lost Bella due to his mistake years ago, it took years to find her, he wanted to compensate, wanted to give her all that rightfully belonged to her.

But Bella's demeanor since her return left him terribly disappointed.

"Ha, you kids don't even draft lies before you tell them, who would push you without any reason? Even if you're making excuses for yourself, you can't be this unrealistic." Francesca glanced at her, obviously not believing.

Upon hearing this, suspicion flashed in Samuel's eyes, clearly doubting Bella's words as well.

Bella pursed her lips, looking at the family of four around the hospital bed, the scene stinging her eyes painfully.

They were clearly her father, mother, brother, clearly they were her real family, Anna was just a child adopted after she got lost, but now in this scene, Bella herself seemed like the outsider, right?

"I was on the balcony wanting to call Vivian Thornecroft to ask about the engagement, but before I could clarify things, why would I commit suicide? Moreover, mom said it too, it's just the second floor, if I truly wanted to die, I could've easily gone to the third floor of the house instead of looking for a high building. The second floor? I wouldn't die, might even end up crippled, why would I joke around with my whole life?"

Bella lifted the corners of her lips, her voice weak yet it echoed powerfully within the hospital room.

These words rendered the room silent, seemingly contemplating her argument.

Anna, who've been quietly standing off to the side, looked at the girl on the bed, a flicker in her eyes, suddenly spoke, "That's right, sister has a point, if she truly intended to die, how could she jump from the second floor? Besides, the balcony had been newly covered with grass a few days ago, so soft, how could anyone die like that."

Bella's eyes narrowed slightly as she looked at Anna, a sneer in her heart.

Sure enough, upon hearing these words, the three people's faces changed again and again, Daniel was the first to lose his temper and angrily spoke.

"You're still trying to argue, the second-floor balcony is inherently low, there's even a layer of thick grass below, let alone killing yourself, it's impossible to even break a leg. If you want to play the sympathy card, you should at least invest some real effort!"
