Karl stepped in to smooth things over, casting a gentle smile toward Lilian.
"Hey babe, so you like fish, huh? No worries, no worries. Come here, I'll help you get as much as you want. No paywalls, my favorite kind of site. Gotta leave a good review for that!"
Then, with the care of a devoted boyfriend, he used his chopsticks to pile piece after piece of fish onto her plate.
Lilian's skin prickled all over at the way Karl casually called her "babe." What the hell was he thinking? Why all of a sudden so attentive? Their whole thing was just pretend anyway.
Across the table, Morrison's face was already stormy, and Karl's arm around Lilian's shoulder, calling her "babe" like that, made Morrison look like he was ready to flip the table.
Karl filled Lilian's plate with a generous helping of fish and said affectionately,
"Eat up. My dad's cooking is top-notch. If you like it, come over anytime and I'll have him cook for you."
