Chapter 44 - Flame and fang

Chaos consumed the battlefield.

Witches cast violent spells from the skies while werewolves in both human and wolf forms clashed with the corrupted warlock beast's monstrous minions. The ground cracked beneath the weight of ancient magic, and above them, a storm brewed—lightning dancing in red and violet across the sky.

In the center of it all stood Callista, glowing faintly with silver and crimson energy—one eye flickering with witch light, the other with the amber hue of her wolf. She was the flame in the storm, her presence demanding attention from friend and foe alike.

Lucien fought beside her, his wolf form massive and deadly, his claws ripping through shadowed creatures that bled smoke and rot.

"Sabrina!" Callista yelled, her voice magically amplified.

From the cliff overlooking the battlefield, Sabrina appeared, cloaked in darkness, her eyes glowing with madness. "You think you're strong enough to stop it?" she snarled. "You are nothing but a failed bond and broken blood!"

Elira, bloodied and limping, appeared from the left flank. "She is the prophecy, Sabrina. You woke something even you can't control!"

Behind Sabrina, the warlock monster began to rise—taller than the trees, built of swirling shadows and charred bones. It had no true face, only glowing red sockets and a crown of horns. The veil between worlds was thinning fast.

Callista staggered slightly, feeling its pull. Her connection to both realms—the magic and the beast—reacted violently inside her. Lucien rushed to steady her.

"I can feel it… it's trying to tear me apart."

Lucien gripped her hand. "You have to hold on. You're the only one who can end this."

A sudden wind blew through the field—spirits of ancient wolves and witches appearing in flashes. They circled Callista in ethereal light.

A whisper filled her mind: "Blood of both, bearer of flame, seal what should not walk again."

Callista turned to Elira, gasping. "The sealing ritual. It has to happen now."

Elira raised her hands, drawing power from the elements as Callista stepped forward. Sabrina screamed, casting a final destructive spell—but Lucien intercepted it midair, absorbing the blow with a pained growl.

And then, Callista knelt in the center of a blazing rune circle, the spirits guiding her movements. She channeled her power—light and darkness—through her veins, her soul burning with the full force of her destiny.

The warlock monster roared and charged.

And Callista… opened her arms to meet it.
