Chapter 8 - You Drooled on a Billionaire, Ava

(Ava Chen's POV)

The first thing I felt when I woke up was warm.

The second was safe.

The third was… a little bit sticky?

I blinked open one eye and immediately saw black silk.

My dad's shirt.

Which meant—

Oh.

I looked up.

Yup.

I was sleeping on his chest. Again.

He was still passed out, one arm around me like a shield and the other resting over his head, like he hadn't spent last night casually mentioning being shot at. His jaw was tight even in sleep. The sunlight filtered in through the giant floor-to-ceiling windows, lighting up the faint scar under his eye and the dark ink peeking out from the cuff of his sleeve.

And then I realized—

Oh my god.

I drooled on him.

"NO," I whispered in horror, trying to wipe it with my sleeve. "Abort. ABORT."

I turned my face away and—

Oh.

My hair.

My very long, to-the-knees, thick, wavy black hair was everywhere. Across the bed, across him, tangled in his buttons, one strand literally looped around his Rolex.

I looked like I'd spun a spiderweb out of keratin in my sleep.

I groaned into his shirt. "Why am I like this?"

His chest vibrated under me.

"Because," his groggy voice muttered, "God hates me."

I shot up. "You're awake?!"

He cracked one eye open. "Hard not to be when a hair monster's slowly strangling me."

"I—DAD—I CAN EXPLAIN."

"No, you can't." He reached up and flicked my forehead gently. "You broke into my room last night, drooled on a multimillion-dollar shirt, and shed enough hair to build a second daughter."

"I WAS SCARED!"

"Mm-hmm. And clingy. And loud."

"You held me."

"You begged."

"You love me."

He sighed. "Unfortunately."

I grinned.

"I'll make you coffee to make up for it?"

"I'll let you live to make up for it."

I leaned down, kissed both his cheeks, and chirped, "Dada, I love you more than coffee."

"Bold. But I'm flattered."

"I mean it."

He smirked faintly, pulled a strand of my hair off his sleeve, and flicked it at my nose. "Get up, spider-girl. I've got a billion-dollar deal to finish."

"I'll sit in your office and do homework while you make billions."

"You'll fall asleep in ten minutes."

"You'll let me, though."

"…Unfortunately."
