"Now that you've found a way to wound the wretch, I believe we can kill it," Emiko said.
Anwyll wiped the blood from his mouth, his grin crooked and humorless. He gave a ragged little chuckle that dissolved into a cough.
"Of course we can."
But his words weren't reassuring.
He looked at the towering wretch that stared menacingly down at them. The wretch loomed so high he barely reached its chest. For a man who had never thought of himself as small, the realization stung more than the wounds bleeding across his body.
Beheading it wouldn't be easy. It was going to be a hassle. It would require a team effort.
Sadly, his team was currently indisposed, and he wasn't in the best condition. He had a ragged wound gaped in his gut that grinded fresh pain through his chest with every breath.
The odds weren't exactly in their favor.
He drew a sharp breath and straightened, gripping the cold metal of his weapon.
