A spear sliced through the air and struck the degenerate's wrist. It didn't pierce through the wretch's skin, but it was enough to make it falter for a moment.
The distraction forced the creature to drop Emiko's body. She collapsed to the ground, coughing and gasping for air as she clutched her throat, a dark imprint already forming across her skin.
Kiah exhaled a sigh of relief at Emiko's safety, only for her expression to harden with dread as her gaze snapped to Naya.
She must have rushed here like they did after hearing the crash. Kiah wanted to warn her, to scream at her to stay back, but no sound came out of her mouth.
Maybe it was the hit to the jaw she sustained from the red-haired thrasher earlier or the headbutt — or maybe both — but she was unable to speak at all from the pain.
But Kiah was sure of one thing. None of them could take down this thing. What they needed was an opening to escape and wait it out until morning. The sun had to be close by now.
Crack!
