Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 — Caught in the Act of Betrayal

Father Su's face turned icy as he spat out four chilling words:"This is not up to you."

Su Wanwan furrowed her elegant brows."Isn't it just five million? I'll pay it back."

"Pay it back? With what?""Do you think five million is a blank sheet of paper—something you can simply cover up with a few words?"

Song Hui's face was filled with unease."Master, isn't it too unfair to make Wanwan marry the young master of the Fu family?"

"Unfair? What's unfair about it? If she doesn't marry him, then Nian Nian will!""We had originally considered matching her with Ye Nan. After all, the Ye Group is also a powerful family. But who could have predicted this mess!"

With that, Father Su left no room for rebuttal."I'll contact the Fu family shortly and let them know we've switched brides. You'd better start preparing for your wedding."

"Dad!"No matter how Su Wanwan protested, Father Su remained unmoved.

But this marriage was originally arranged for Su Nian!

Having made up his mind, Father Su ordered people to keep a close eye on Su Wanwan, denying her any chance to run off.

Back in her room, Su Wanwan kept messaging Ye Nan, trying to explain that what had happened the previous night was a misunderstanding. She pleaded for a chance to talk face-to-face.

But soon, a red exclamation mark appeared, blocking her messages. She tried calling him—no answer.

Su Wanwan knew she had indeed done something that betrayed Ye Nan's trust, but she hadn't meant to.That vanished text—it couldn't have been a coincidence. Someone must have interfered.

She couldn't just sit and wait for doom. She had to find Ye Nan and explain everything herself.

She waited until the dead of night. Once everyone in the Su household had fallen asleep, she quietly slipped out through the back door.

Ye Nan's prepared wedding house was close by. He once said that this way, Wanwan could visit home often after marriage.

She soon reached the base of the villa. Taking out the key, she opened the door.

The living room downstairs was dark.

She turned on the flashlight on her phone—and the beam caught a woman's short-sleeved shirt on the floor. On the stairs, a trail of lingerie led upwards.

Su Wanwan trembled violently. Her heart plummeted into a cold abyss.

What had happened was now painfully obvious.

Only when she heard faint movements from upstairs did she reach out with a trembling hand to grasp the railing and force her leaden legs to climb.

The bedroom door was ajar.

Inside, ambiguous whispers mingled—entwined voices of a man and a woman, disturbingly familiar.

"Nan-gege, who do you think is better in bed—me, or my sister?"

Ye Nan sneered dismissively."Why mention that shameless woman?""She always looked so innocent, but after two years together, she never even let me kiss her. Who would've thought she was that kind of woman behind closed doors?"

"You used to tell me Su Wanwan had a messy private life—I didn't believe you. Now I do.""If you hadn't tipped me off so we could catch her in the act, I'd have married an adulteress into my home!"

Su Nian giggled coquettishly."I just didn't want Nan-gege to be kept in the dark anymore. You're not mad I spoke up, are you?"

"How could I be? My darling, I'm grateful beyond words."Ye Nan gently kissed her hair.

"Nan-gege, are you really going to break up with my sister?""But the wedding date is already set…"

Su Nian's voice was like honeyed silk, her fingers tracing circles on Ye Nan's chest.Ye Nan, unable to resist, seized her hand, his heart softening."I'll marry you, of course."

"She was just a toy to me—some bumpkin girl from the countryside. How could she compare to even a finger of my precious Nian Nian?""Besides, you've endured so much for my sake over the past year. My heart aches for you."

Su Wanwan felt like she'd fallen into an ice cellar.

She couldn't believe such cruel words had come from the mouth of the refined, gentlemanly Ye Nan.So much for "gentle and noble." For two years, she had never seen past the mask he wore.

The pieces fell into place—a year, betrayal, exposure. Now she understood why last night happened.

Bang!Su Wanwan kicked the bedroom door open.

Su Nian shrieked, startled, and shrank into Ye Nan's arms.

A flash of panic crossed Ye Nan's face but quickly settled into calm.He grabbed the blanket to cover Su Nian, then looked at Su Wanwan with cold disdain.

"You still have the audacity to show up?"

"Ye Nan, if you wanted to break up, you could've said so. No need for all this scheming. Disgusting."

Su Wanwan's contempt stemmed from the fact that he conspired with Su Nian to trap her.

Ye Nan misunderstood, thinking she was referring only to his infidelity.

"Well, now that you know, there's no point pretending anymore.""You betrayed me too—so we're even."

Su Wanwan's fingers curled into tight fists under her sleeve, her heart chilled to the core.

"We've been together for over a year, and you still have the gall to say we're even? You really are shameless."

Ye Nan's expression soured.

"Su Wanwan, do you think acting all righteous now makes you look innocent? Just take a look at the marks on your neck. What right do you have to accuse me?"

Before Su Wanwan could respond, Su Nian spoke up, pitifully:"Nan-gege, don't be so harsh with sister… After all, you were together for a long time. There must have been some feelings, right?""It's only natural for her to be upset. Maybe you should go comfort her… I'll be fine on my own."

Su Wanwan's eyes filled with scorn at Su Nian's fake gentleness.

"Could you cut the act with your green tea theatrics?""Do you think your tears of self-pity make you look noble?"

Su Nian flinched, trembling like a fragile little animal.

Ye Nan saw her shrinking in fear and Su Wanwan's overbearing aura.

"Enough! She's your sister! Can't you treat her with a little kindness?""Nian Nian was right—you're always so mean to her.""I must've been blind to fall for a shrew like you!""You've got no femininity at all!"

Ye Nan's gaze swept over Su Wanwan, as though unwilling to look at her again.

Baggy clothes like a burlap sack, wide-legged pants so shapeless one couldn't even see her figure—More often than not, Ye Nan had felt like he was dating a man.

Su Wanwan tilted her head slightly and smiled beautifully."Funny… when she crawled into my boyfriend's bed, she didn't seem to remember I was her sister."

Su Nian began to cry in a low voice."Sister, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to steal Nan-gege… I just love him too much, I couldn't control myself…""Don't blame Nan-gege. I seduced him. Everything was my fault… Don't fight because of me…""Nan-gege, maybe we should forget about getting married. I don't want you to feel pressured…"

Ye Nan wrapped Su Nian tightly in his arms, his tone resolute.

"Don't worry. I, Ye Nan, will only marry you, Su Nian, in this lifetime."

"Then I suppose I should thank you—for sparing me."

With those words, Su Wanwan picked up Ye Nan's favorite porcelain vase from the table and smashed it onto the floor.

"Su Wanwan!"

Su Wanwan's smile bloomed radiantly, a shimmer of unshed tears in her eyes."Consider that your breakup compensation."

When they were still together, Ye Nan cherished that vase deeply. He had supposedly spent a fortune on it at an auction, and treated it like a treasure—dusting it daily as though it were a divine relic.Once, Su Wanwan had barely grazed it, and he had scolded her for ages.

She turned and strode away, slamming the door behind her.

"Ye Nan, since we've been together for so long, let me leave you with a parting blessing.""Good fortune never comes in pairs, and misfortune never walks alone—what do you think?"
