Chapter 4 - She tried to stay awake

Unedited

Jasmine threw her hand around him and leaped on him. She caught him off guard causing both of them to fall backwards.

She didn't mind, she held him close and placed her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. This was her favourite spot.

She had thought she would not be able to do this for the rest of her life. She never imagined she would see him. Tears stained his shirt.

"I miss you, I thought…" sob, "I thought I would not see you again." She cried. "I was so alone and sad because I couldn't tell you how much I love you one last time and knowing you…" she broke down completely.

She couldn't say the word, "knowing he did because of her made her feel guilty."

Mummering spread across the hall as everyone was watching them. Liam stayed awkwardly on the floor for a while. He couldn't understand why the girl was crying or saying these things go him.

"Uhmmm…" he began, his hand was raised slightly to the side not touching her, "I don't know what this is about but uhmm…" he pressed his lips into a thin line. He felt uncomfortable with the attention they were getting.

"Can you…" he nugded her shoulders gently moving her.

Jasmine realised their awkward position and stood, but she missed a foot and fell on him again causing some students around to laugh.

Red face reddened from embarrassment when Liam helped her. But she masked it with a smile. Her eyes lightened as she stared at him, disregarding the mummering behind them.

"Are you alright!" He asked her holding her hand and staring at the foot she had missed. Jasmine nodded enthusiasticly.

"Yes."

He took a step back. "Hmm…" he began looking around, "I think you're mistaken. I'll pretend I didn't hear that." He said leaving her standing there.

She was confused for a while before the realisation hit her.

At this point, she and Liam were not friends. They've never exchanged a word. She couldn't help but internally face palmed herself.

She felt her heart squeeze as she watched him walk away but comforted herself with the knowledge that they would begin talking in time.

The game continued and she had to leave the field. She lowered her eyes as she walked.

Most had not heard her, but they were stunned that she could speak. They all heard her scream Liam's name.

She had always been silent and called a mute.

Words soon spread over the school. Jasmine in class 3 Bronze could speak. People began speculating. Many were off the opinion that she has been pretending.

As she walked up the stairs, she saw Kera. She bit the inside of her mouth, image of Kera on the large billboard came to mind. Years from now, Kera would be a known musician and actress.

Their eyes met briefly before they walked past each other like complete strangers.

Kera had also heard the gossip, but she discarded it. She knew Jasmine could speak, but she would never yell, she was too shy to do so. She spoke only to selected individuals and at selective time. And when she did, she never yelled.

Jasmine walked into the class, not surprised to be stared at as she entered. Even in the class of outcast where everyone stuck together she was an outcast.

The once rowdy class paused when she entered and everyone turned to her. Her breath heighten at the attention she was given. They watched her walk to her seat and she felt she'd collapse from their intense gaze.

She resumed her position which was at the back. She has a seatmate, but all through, she never spoke to the girl. The girl was mostly nonchalant and didn't speak and just like many of her classmates, Jasmine didn't see her once they left highschool.

Her name is Deborah. She had her head on the table.

Jasmine's bag pack was on the table. She placed the bag on her lap and felt it under her palm then she brought it to her chest and held it tight.

This was one of the few things she had of her mother but it was burnt by keras mother. Seeing it right now ignited a feeling in her.

She noticed her note pad on the table. She had dropped this. In her past life, she had lost it at the spot hall. It shouldn't be here.

She turned to her seat mate, contemplating asking her about the notepad, but stopped herself. She looked around the class. When she turned to the last seat on the other end close to the window, she caught the same boy she had seen in the school clinic staring right at her.

Just like before, he held her gaze briefly before lazily moving it away. He turned to the side, stretched out his hand on the table and placed his head on it.

Jasmine twisted her lips.

He wasn't there in the past. Who might he be?

"Jasmine! I heard you spoke today." a girl with curly hair, named Mia spoke, there was a red haired girl behind her.

"And hug Liam, omg, Liam of all people." The other girl shreked, "our number one hunk." She leaned closer to Jasmine, 'how did he smell like?" She asked in a low voice and dreamy eyes.

Jasmine had to move herself backwards.

Mia placed one hand on Zoe's back, gently reminding her of the mission they came for.

"Oh yes," Zoe stood straight and crossed her hand over her chest before pushing her chest forward to look frightening.

"Why did you hug him?"

"So you have been pretending to be mute?"

Jasmine shook her head.

She is older, so she shouldn't be afraid of teens. She knew this, but she didn't get the reason why she couldn't stop the fear that was growing inside of her.

That moment, the teacher stepped into the class. "Everyone take your seat." Jasmine lets out a breath of relief.

Her seatmate sat straight. But the blonde boy with Green eyes didn't. He had no interest in the class.

Jasmine remembered been sent out of this class for not been able to answer the teachers question. He had questioned her when he caught her sleeping.

So Jasmine made a resolve to stay awake.

However, once the class started, Jasmine immediately started feeling sleepy.

She triedt o fight it but couldn't and soon, she placed her head on the table and began to snore softly.
