Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Kawaki

After a brief moment of confusion, Kawaki suddenly sat up in bed and quickly looked around, taking in the completely unfamiliar surroundings.

He was in a bedroom of about forty square meters. The furnishings were very simple—just a single bed, a wooden desk, and a wardrobe.

"Ow... my head hurts!"

A flood of memories surged into his mind.

Moments later, Kawaki's face was filled with shock.

He had transmigrated?

Kawaki forced himself to stay calm. It took him about five minutes to fully grasp the current situation.

He had indeed transmigrated.

To be precise, he had transmigrated into the world of Pokémon, becoming a ten-year-old boy—also named Kawaki—whose parents had passed away.

In the memories, Kawaki's father had been a forest ranger, and his mother a rebellious Officer Jenny. Instead of becoming a police officer, she chose to become a Pokémon Breeder.

Together, the two of them had run a daycare and inn along the main road between Fallarbor Town and Meteor Falls in the Hoenn region, providing rest and care for passing trainers and their Pokémon.

The three of them had once lived a peaceful life, but three years ago, they encountered a shipwreck while traveling, and both parents perished at sea. Kawaki was the only one who survived.

With no one left to run the daycare, it eventually fell into disrepair. At the age of seven, Kawaki and one of his parents' Pokémon went to live in an orphanage.

He and the Pokémon scraped by on his parents' inheritance until he turned ten, when he returned to the abandoned daycare with the Pokémon who had always cared for him.

Facing the derelict building, overwhelmed with longing for his parents, Kawaki ultimately chose to end his life, hoping to find them in another world.

Kawaki:

This child...

Outside the window, tree shadows danced, and the chirping of insects and birds drifted into the room with the breeze.

Kawaki quickly came to terms with the fact that he had transmigrated.

At this point, what else could he do?

The only silver lining was that he had transmigrated into the relatively peaceful and friendly world of Pokémon—not some grim universe like Warhammer or Resident Evil.

Having grown up watching Pokémon anime and playing the games, he was already quite familiar with everything here.

Kawaki sat up from the bed, calmly analyzing his current situation.

Kawaki. Male. Ten years old. Orphan. His only assets were 20,000 PokéDollars (his remaining inheritance), a so-called daycare and inn in name only, and a single Pokémon left behind by his parents.

Become a Trainer like Ash and travel the world?

No, that wasn't realistic. Even though the Pokémon world offered many perks to Trainers, without financial support from parents or some way to earn money, it wasn't just hard to raise Pokémon—it was hard to even feed them.

Maybe he could use the 20,000 PokéDollars to start a small business?

But in reality, 20,000 PokéDollars sounded like a lot, yet it wouldn't even cover a month of expenses.

In the original memories, a bowl of miso soup cost 500, and a bowl of ramen was 1,000.

Of course, it would be cheaper to buy ingredients and cook for himself.

Still, 20,000 wasn't going to last long.

"Since I'm here, I might as well make the best of it. First things first, I need to find a job and support myself!" Kawaki resolved silently.

But before that, he needed to go downstairs and check on the Pokémon the original Kawaki had left behind.

He got out of bed, opened the door, and walked down the stairs.

The sound of his footsteps startled the Pokémon downstairs. Its eyes lit up as it quickly turned its head to look.

The next second, halfway down the stairs, Kawaki locked eyes with the Pokémon.

It was about two meters tall, resembling a pink, fluffy stuffed bear. Its body was black, while its head and tail were pink.

"Bewear, a Pokémon from the Alola region—usually part Fighting-type!" Kawaki instantly recalled the name of the Pokémon.

Despite its cute appearance, Bewear was considered extremely dangerous in Alola. Its habitats were mostly off-limits.

Kawaki froze on the stairs, watching as the big, fluffy bear with a broom in its hand appeared to be cleaning the house. Maybe Bewear wasn't that dangerous after all?

"Gu~!"

Seeing its little master come downstairs, Bewear's shiny black eyes widened as it stared, then excitedly waved its fluffy arms.

It looked just like a big pink teddy bear waving hello.

"Hi, Bewear!" Kawaki grinned, flashing a friendly smile and greeting it.

Suddenly, Bewear froze mid-wave and stared blankly at him.

Kawaki's heart tightened. What's going on? Could Bewear somehow tell he wasn't the original Kawaki?

But in the next second, Bewear's eyes lit up brighter than ever, and its face broke into a delighted smile. It waved its arms excitedly, and its cry was full of joy.

"Gu~!"

Little Master smiled!

Pokémon were always sensitive to emotions. On the way back here, Bewear had sensed that something was off with its little master.

His presence had been dim, his eyes full of despair, his entire being lifeless—like someone who had lost all reason to keep living.

That feeling… it was as if he was about to die…

Bewear had been deeply worried. It had wanted to stay with its little master, but he said he wanted to be alone for a while and asked it to clean up downstairs, saying he planned to reopen the daycare like his parents once had.

The uneasy feeling had lingered in Bewear's heart.

But now, seeing its little master smiling at it, that feeling vanished instantly.

Thank goodness!

Little Master smiled!

That child… this child… they're all good kids, sigh…

It had been so, so long since it last saw its little master smile.

Pokémon really were simple like that.

Kawaki smiled, and Bewear was overjoyed.

So happy, in fact, that a small, radiant sun slowly floated above its head—like one of those emoji symbols, representing joy, happiness, and emotional uplift.

Kawaki stared, dumbfounded, at the little sun above Bewear's head.

And the next second, a line of text suddenly appeared in his field of vision:

[Bewear's mood has improved. Joy +80. Received Bewear's gift: TM "Baby-Doll Eyes."]

[TM: Baby-Doll Eyes – Fairy-type move. Uses wide, round eyes to stare at the opponent, lowering their Attack stat. Can be taught to compatible Pokémon through psychic transmission or conventional training. The target Pokémon will always learn the move. Uses remaining: 9999/9999.]

His cheat?

Kawaki rubbed his eyes in disbelief, but when he focused again, the little sun still floated above Bewear's head.

This time, even more detailed information about the Pokémon appeared in his mind:
