RAY'S POV
After listening to George, I was infuriated. So infuriated that I stormed out of the ward, leaving George and the rest of them behind. But somehow, Mabel managed to tag along. She grabbed my arm trying to stop me. She was probably worried with the way I walked out of the ward, but I could not afford to let her follow me.
"Mabel, don't follow me," I said to her amidst gritting my teeth, trying to suppress my anger so I don't take it out on her. But she insisted on following me, "that's an order Mabel," my voice a little bit harsh. She took a few steps back, her eyes darting away from me. That was my cue to leave. I made my way to the director's office, deferring all protocols.
This could either be a coincidence, or Katrina could be involved… either way, I walked into the director's office to meet the director and Katrina chatting over tea. "I thought courtesy is a thing, you don't know that?" she wore a smug look which later spread into a smile. Director Jane was either warm, or a manipulative person; among the three of us in that space, she had the calmest demeanour.
"Did grandfather put you to it?" I asked directing my question at Katrina, while ignoring the fact that my initial intention was to come find out if the director took part in what happened to the girl who's still in coma.
"Raymond," she called my name then took a pause, twisted her lips while sucking in her cheeks; her arrogance annoyed me, and I was already reaching my limit. "You do happen to know who you're talking to, right? I'm Katrina, and you do not have a right to question me," she did not deny it. She just didn't say she did it, she sees me as someone who worth less of her time.
I took in a deep breath and turned to Director Jane, "can I have a word with you?" I asked her, actively trying to stifle my anger against Katrina. She smiled and gave me a nod. Then she asked Katrina to give us a moment. At that point, Katrina frowned at her, then she looked at me with detest in her eyes.
"There is absolutely no need for that Jane, I was already leaving ," she said. She grabbed her bag and walked out of the office. Director Jane beckoned me to take a seat, but I wasn't in the mood to do that. "You are either going to take a seat, or risk losing an ally." Her words sound corny to me, but her face, her expression was not giving anything away.
Perhaps, if I play along and just sit, I might get the information I need. So I just sat right across from her, the table between us. "Would you like some tea," she asked, giving me that warm smile she first greeted me with when I walked in. I shook my head, declining her offer. She just nods, and then dropped her cup on the table.
"You can have the CCTV footage and thank me for that," she said, like she already knew why I came. Since she's aware, could she be a part of it, or just someone who's neutral. She probably noticed the look of doubt in my eyes cause she ended up saying, "I wouldn't want to offend the next president of Grants group," her voice was calm, her eyes steady, and her smile unwavering.
But on hearing her call me the next president of the Grants Conglomeration, I knew I shouldn't sit with her. The likes of her could get me in trouble, especially knowing she's friends with Katrina. So I got up to leave after mouthing a thank you to her.
"I can help you win against Katrina,"
"Trust me when I say, we both don't like her,"
I looked at Director Jane, she couldn't convince me. I'd say she's on par with Katrina. She's trying to fool me, manipulate me till I lose everything. People like her can't be trusted.
"I appreciate your help with the footage, but that's as far as it can get. Don't try your luck snoozing around my family business,"
My words was a warning to her, but she didn't even bat an eye, nor move an inch. Her facial expression remained the same, unbothered. It would be useless wasting anymore time with her, so I left for the security room.
She already put a call through to the control room, because when I got there, I was welcomed and given access to the CCTV footage. Apparently, someone had locked the doctor in charge of treating the girl in his office. That same person turned out to be the nurse who followed the doctor that tried to infuse euthanasia in the drip. I asked for a copy of the footage, which I was given. I took it and left the hospital.
While on my way to the mansion, I asked George to send me a screenshot of the message he received, which he did right before I arrived the mansion. Grandfather was there, with the family doctor to examine him. He looked at me like I was not meant to be there.
"You should be at your office," he said to me, while taking his eyes off me. It was as though my presence was unwanted, but to him, I've never been wanted.
"Doctor Fein," I called, using my eyes to signal the family doctor that I needed some privacy with the old man. He packed his case and bid grandfather farewell, but the old man forbade him from leaving. I scoffed at his actions.
"The girl at the hospital almost got killed today, mercy killing," I said not caring the doctor was there anymore. After all, it was the old man's wish. Having heard what I said, the old man asked Doctor Fein to go explore the garden, but there was nothing like a garden at the property. I watched as doctor Fein walked out, shutting the door behind him. That was when the old man decided to speak to me, "And?"
