Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Ghost Ship Nightmare

Nightmare, Level 1, Durability 300/300, Capacity 400 units, Speed 40 knots

Hull Skills

- Nightmare: Sleeping on board causes nightmares. Energy recovery rate is reduced by 75%.

- Curse of the Angler: This ship is cursed. Can't catch normal fish.

Description: This ship has drifted at sea for centuries… until its new master arrived.

Yang Yi's face fell as he read the ship's info. It was a ghost ship. The hull was smothered in vines and seaweed, clearly untouched for ages. The deck was soggy, creaking underfoot like it might collapse any second. He'd played enough horror games to know this setup reeked of danger. But after searching every inch, he found nothing alive—not even a cockroach. He exhaled, relieved. The last thing he wanted was a fight with some weird creature right at the start.

The ship was about 12 meters long, with a helm, captain's cabin, deck, and cargo holds. The helm sat on a raised platform at the bow, giving a clear view. Behind it was the captain's cabin, with a bed and basic furniture. Further back was the central deck with a tall mast, and on either side, cargo holds leading to the hull—empty except for a rank, moldy stench.

No starting supplies, which made sense for a centuries-old ghost ship. He opened the log to check the world chat. Everyone was showing off their ships. Most were basic, but a few stood out:

Windrunner, Level 1, Durability 800/800, Capacity 500 units, Speed 70 knots

Hull Skill: Ride the Waves: Increases speed by 100% for 5 minutes.

Description: You won't even see its tailwind, trust me!!

Probably the fastest so far. Most basic ships clocked 30–40 knots; bigger ones had higher durability but slower speeds. Nightmare was mid-tier for speed.

Sakura, Level 1, Durability 1000/1000, Capacity 1000 units, Speed 35 knots

Hull Skill: Sakura Burst: The cherry blossom tree on board shoots "evolutionary sakura," randomly altering crew attributes—may trigger evolution!

Description: Hoping the crew stays human-shaped.

This message silenced the chat for a beat.

"Ha! My ship's awesome, right? I think I'm evolving, Wyyyyy!"

"You sure that's not mutating?"

"Sakura, huh? Better slow down, or I'll ram you into the ocean floor!"

That came from Iron Will, who'd turned off anonymity. His log screenshot showed a steel warship loaded with twenty gun barrels—all firepower, no mercy. But everyone laughed at its 5-knot speed.

"Baka! Survive till tomorrow first."

"Damn it! Just you wait!"

Most replies were censored garbage. "Guess the system translates all languages to your母语," Yang Yi typed. "Count me in." Scrolling up, he found something useful:

"Anyone tried fishing?"

"Shut up, I'm doing it!"

"Just found out you can fish. Now I don't wanna log off."

"Fish once a week, fish for a week straight!"

"Just baited the spot."

"You're poetry-ing while baiting? Idiot!"

"Fuck! You didn't say! I'm used to it—there go my rice balls!"

"Guess what I caught? A busted 'Farmer's Fist'!"

Yang Yi perked up. If they could fish freshwater, he was set. His ship had a rod lying on deck:

Name: Barnacle-Covered Moldy Fishing Rod

Type: Tool/Relic

Quality: White

Description: Reduces chance of catching normal fish. Slightly increases chance of catching… unknown objects.

Trust me, you won't like what it pulls up.

"Unknown objects probably include water," he reasoned. Before fishing, he needed to set course. No target yet—he'd just go straight toward the dark smudge on the horizon that had to be land.

Steering was easy, no skill needed—just muscle memory. A hand on the helm changed direction; adjusting speed and using gear like grappling hooks was as simple as a航海 game. The helm's bow position let him watch ahead while steering, key for solo sailing. As for power… the sail was just tattered rags. He decided not to question it and focus on scavenging.

Rotten Wood +1

Ragged Cloth +1

Rotten Wood +1

The log pinged nonstop. Like Gold Miner, but targets moved. Items converted to resources in the hold: ~10% chance for 1 unit of wood per rotten log, 1 unit of cloth per rag. After hours of work, he had 5 wood and 3 cloth. Upgrading to Level 2 needed: Wood200, Cloth100, Captain's Favor. "Favor" was obviously the cabin furniture—non-negotiable. At this rate, a week minimum.

Special ships had it worse, he learned from chat. Basic ships needed only Wood100 and Cloth50. Specials required blueprints.

"Ugh, seriously? Where the hell do I get blueprints?!"

"In horror games, blueprints are usually—"

"Fished a blueprint! Just got 1 unit of steel!"

"Hell yeah!"

"Smart anglers find joy in every catch. Today, I just want—Baka! Your 'pharaoh' better watch out tomorrow!"

"Sakura, show your name if you're tough! Just wait till I find you!"

Yang Yi closed the log. Special ships had downsides too. Grabbing the rod, he headed for the deck. Time to see what this cursed thing would pull up.
