Chapter 8 - 8

## Chapter 8: You Came to Me on Your Own!

The voice on the other end of the phone sounded urgent too. "Assistant Lin, I'm already downstairs. The elevator needs a key card to go up. Come down and get me quickly!"

"Coming!"

Assistant Lin hung up the phone and hurried downstairs, not noticing a furtive figure in the corridor nearby.

That figure was wearing a black dress, her beautiful curves wrapped in velvet material, adding a touch of alluring charm.

It was Summer.

After running away from Lee Garden today, Summer hadn't gone back. She simply couldn't stand Jane and was so angry that every part of her body ached!

So she had called a good girlfriend to go shopping and have dinner, and to join her in cursing Jane!

They had been out quite late, and when walking near this area, she happened to see Payne's car entering this hotel!

As if possessed, Summer abandoned her friend and quietly followed all the way to the top floor of the hotel.

Mr. Payne was staying here?

Could she perhaps...

Summer's eyes darted around as her heart began to pound uncontrollably.

She bit her lip, and seeing no one around, boldly pressed the doorbell.

The bell rang, but no one answered.

From inside the suite came vague crashing sounds.

Summer tried pushing the door and discovered it wasn't locked!

What luck!

Summer boldly walked in, trying hard to put on a bright and sunny smile.

"Mr. Payne~"

The next second, her smile froze on her face.

The presidential suite was a mess, with things smashed all over the floor. Even the most expensive ornaments hadn't been spared.

Amid the chaos and shattered porcelain, Payne stood with bloodshot eyes, veins bulging at his temples, his entire being radiating a violent and terrifying aura!

Like an absolute tyrant!

One glance was enough—that terrifying and frightening pressure was overwhelming. The invisible killing intent made her whole body freeze, her hands and feet turning cold. She didn't dare move an inch!

"Get out!"

A porcelain vase worth six figures smashed beside Summer's feet!

Summer screamed, her face pale with fright. She no longer dared to stay and fled immediately!

Inside the room.

Payne was pressing hard against his temples, veins bulging on the back of his hand, each knuckle making cracking sounds from the force.

The waves of pain were sharp and intense, as if someone was slowly drilling into his head with an awl!

Payne's eyes were bloodshot as he grabbed a piece of broken glass and clutched it in his palm.

Crimson blood rushed out eagerly.

When Assistant Lin came running back with the medicine box, he was nearly scared to death. "Mr. Payne!"

Payne's hand was covered in blood, dripping steadily, yet he laughed—laughed wildly, with a careless, almost crazed air.

"What?"

"..." You're the boss, how dare I say anything? Assistant Lin quickly opened the medicine box and took out a pain-relief injection.

Payne showed no intention of using it. Every time his condition flared up over the years, it was the same—pain medications no longer had any effect on him.

A glass of strong liquor would be more effective.

Payne opened the liquor cabinet and took out a bottle he had tried before. The taste was indeed good—mellow, fragrant, and intoxicating.

Payne staggered back and leaned against the huge floor-to-ceiling window, half-squinting as he looked down at the bustling traffic below.

In his hazy thoughts, he could hear Su Ruoxian's heart-wrenching cries;

He recalled that face that resembled his own by five or six parts;

And that dark, sunless basement.

Scene after scene from the past flashed before his eyes, finally freezing on a smiling, stunningly beautiful face.

Payne's body gradually relaxed, but his migraine attacked again with ferocity. The wine glass fell to the floor, and he collapsed along with it.

Assistant Lin returned with a cup of honey water, just in time to hear Payne murmur a name.

Jane.

Jane?

Assistant Lin was stunned for two seconds, and his ears immediately perked up!

He thought he understood now!

Last night, when Payne was on the terrace at Lee Garden, those inexplicable words about someone—they suddenly connected with this name!

Acting decisively, Assistant Lin immediately pulled up Jane's information that he had looked up before and dialed her number!

But after three calls, no one answered!

Miss, what are you doing? Pick up the phone!

Assistant Lin paced in circles for a while before finally deciding to go to her address.

The iron gate was pounded loudly, and after a long wait, footsteps finally came from inside.

At last, the door opened, and Jane appeared with water still dripping from her hair.

"Miss Jane, Mr. Payne is in a very bad state. I'd like you to come see him!"

...

"If his condition is bad, take him to the hospital. I'm not a doctor."

Jane remained unmoved and was about to close the door.

"Hey, hey, hey, Miss Jane!"

Assistant Lin was anxious to the point of panic, watching as the door was about to pinch his fingers, when suddenly it opened again.

In that brief moment, Jane had already composed herself. Her face now wore a slight smile, completely different from her cold demeanor just seconds ago.

"Since you've come all this way to ask for help, I can't just ignore you. Let's go see Mr. Payne."

"Huh?" Assistant Lin was stunned for a second before reacting, "Oh, oh, thank you, Miss Jane!"

As she sat in the car, Jane lowered her eyelashes. No matter how high the threshold for that auction might be, Payne would certainly be on their invitation list.

Well then, Mr. Payne, you've delivered yourself right to my doorstep.

They arrived quickly.

This seven-star hotel before them was one of Payne's properties. The entire 88th floor at the top was Payne's private area.

Jane had learned all this the first time she came.

She didn't need anyone to guide her; she found her way to the presidential suite door with practiced ease.

Jane gently turned the doorknob and walked in.

What she didn't know was that at that moment, in the shadows, there was a trembling figure. That person covered her mouth as she watched Jane's back, her eyes filled with fear and jealousy.

Then she pressed the shutter and quietly took a photo.

Jane entered the room, which was pitch black with no lights on.

Taking another step forward, her foot stepped on something.

Before Jane could identify what it was, she felt a scorching presence approach from behind. Then, a large hand gripped her neck and slammed her hard against the wall!

"Mmph."

Her back hit painfully, and Jane let out a muffled groan.

Before she could react, the hand gripping her neck was like an iron vise, gradually tightening its hold.

Jane could barely breathe and struggled to call out, "Payne..."

The hand paused for a moment, and the person in a state of rage had a moment of clarity.

The next second, the lights came on.

Payne released his hand.

Jane touched her reddened, painful neck and let out a slight sigh of relief.

Payne only glanced at her once before turning away, his voice hoarse and cold, terrifyingly so. "Get out!"

"Oh."

Jane responded.

However, as she walked behind Payne, Jane suddenly gave a cold laugh, then without hesitation, raised her foot and kicked him hard!

Caught off guard, Payne fell onto the large bed.

The next moment, Jane sat straddling his back, in a controlling position, looking down at him. "Stay still. Better not move!"

"..."

Payne couldn't help but laugh from anger.

He hadn't expected this woman to be so bold. She dared to kick him?

With her little strength, he could flip her from one end to the other with just one hand!

But for some reason, he didn't move.

During those two seconds when he hesitated, Jane had already bent down. Her wet hair strands brushed against Payne's face, bringing a slight tickling sensation.

"So Mr. Payne... even has such vulnerable moments."
