Chapter 10 - The First Clash

Fang's voice broke the silence, drawing Kira and Ronan's full attention. "This mission is a delicate one," he began, his tone firm. "We've received word that a secret group in the neighboring village may be working with our enemies and plotting something dangerous. Our task is to infiltrate the village undercover, posing as students on an expedition to a friendly school there."

Kira listened intently as Fang continued. "Master Wang will meet us upon arrival and arrange a place for us inside the school. While we're there, we'll observe, gather intelligence, and uncover the group's true intentions. This won't be easy. We must blend in perfectly. Our enemies are cunning, and the smallest mistake could cost us everything."

Fang's sharp gaze moved between Kira and Ronan, ensuring they grasped the weight of the situation. "This mission isn't just about fighting-it's about adapting, thinking on your feet, and working as a team. Our goal is to gather information, not engage unless absolutely necessary. Trust your training. Trust each other."

Kira nodded, his earlier excitement now tempered by the gravity of Fang's words. This wasn't just a test of his skills; it was a matter of life and death-not just for him, but for his team and possibly even their entire school.

As they left the courtyard and set off toward the village, a deep sense of purpose settled over Kira. He was ready-not just for the mission, but for whatever awaited them in the shadows ahead.

Upon arriving at the village, Fang, Kira, and Ronan were immediately escorted to Master Wang. The elderly man, with a bald head, long white beard, and sharp, knowing eyes, greeted them warmly before leading them to the school.

However, to Fang's surprise, Master Wang introduced them to the students as challengers. A murmur spread through the crowd as curious eyes studied them. Fang frowned, unable to understand why they were being presented in such an aggressive light.

Among the students, one in particular stood out-a tall, well-built fighter named Kai. His gaze locked onto them, sharp with eagerness, his body tensed as if he were moments away from launching an attack. His lips curled into a smirk. "Challengers, huh? Let's see if they're worth anything."

Before he could make a move, Master Wang raised a hand. "Not now, Kai. They've just arrived. Give them time to rest." His voice was calm, but firm.

Kai huffed but didn't argue, his intense gaze lingering on them before turning away.

Master Wang led the trio to a small, modest room with three simple beds. As they settled in, Fang wasted no time questioning Wang. "Why did you introduce us as challengers? That's bound to cause trouble."

Wang stroked his beard. "It was the safest way to integrate you into the school without raising suspicion. If you arrived as guests, people would ask too many questions. As challengers, you're just another group of wandering fighters looking to test their skills. Kai will calm down soon enough."

With that, he left, leaving the group to process the unexpected turn of events.

Ronan cracked his knuckles. "If we have to fight, I'll go first. I wouldn't mind putting that guy in his place." His grin was confident, but there was an edge of excitement in his voice.

Fang nodded. "Let's not pick unnecessary fights. But if he forces our hand, we'll deal with it."

Deciding to explore, they stepped out into the school grounds. The academy was bustling with students training in various martial arts disciplines.

As they wandered, they were approached by a girl around eleven years old. She had striking features, long flowing hair, and a graceful presence. "You must be the new arrivals," she said with a warm smile. "I'm Sara. Let me show you around."

They introduced themselves, quickly warming up to her friendly demeanor. As she guided them through the school, she lowered her voice slightly. "Be careful around Kai. He's a level five martial artist, and he thrives on proving his strength. If he sees you as a threat, he won't stop until he gets his fight."

Kira exchanged glances with Fang and Ronan. It was clear that Kai wasn't someone who would just "lose interest." Their mission had just begun, but trouble was already brewing.

As they stood in the schoolyard, the afternoon sun casting long shadows across the training grounds, Kai appeared once more. His gaze darkened the moment he saw them with Sara, his hands clenching into fists. Whispers rippled through the gathered students as they noticed his presence.

Kai's frustration boiled over, his voice laced with venom. "You think you belong here? Strutting around like you own the place?" His eyes flickered toward Sara before narrowing at Kira and Ronan. "Pathetic. I bet you're nothing but a bunch of cowards hiding behind your teacher."

Fang tensed beside them, his expression unreadable, but before he could intervene, Ronan took a step forward.

"Cowards?" Ronan let out a sharp laugh, rolling his shoulders. "Funny. I was just thinking the same about you-hiding behind cheap insults instead of proving yourself."

The gathered students murmured in excitement, sensing the challenge hanging in the air. Kai's smirk widened. "Oh, I'll prove myself, alright. Let's see if you can handle more than just words."

Fang exhaled sharply, stepping in front of Ronan. "We didn't come here to pick fights." His voice was calm, but firm. "We have nothing to prove."

Kai scoffed. "That's just another way of saying you're afraid."

Ronan clenched his fists, his patience finally snapping. "Fine. You want a fight? Let's see if you can back up all that talk."

The crowd tightened around them as students rushed closer, eager to witness the duel. Kai cracked his knuckles, his smirk turning predatory. The air between them grew thick with anticipation, and in that moment, it was clear-there was no turning back now.

The fight between Ronan and Kai erupted with electrifying intensity, the air thick with anticipation. The schoolyard hummed with energy as students crowded around, eyes locked on the two fighters.

Ronan, though only a level three martial artist, moved with astonishing speed and precision. His spiritual energy pulsed through his body, allowing him to execute techniques with supernatural fluidity.

Kai struck first. His high kick sliced through the air, aimed straight for Ronan's head. But Ronan was faster. He ducked smoothly, retaliating with a rapid series of punches that forced Kai to step back. The crowd gasped as Ronan's movements became a blur-spinning kicks, open-palm strikes, each aimed with pinpoint accuracy at Kai's vital points.

But Kai was no ordinary fighter. Despite being slower, his experience and raw power as a level five martial artist kept him in control. He blocked Ronan's attacks with disciplined ease, absorbing the blows with his stronger frame. Then, with a sudden burst of force, he delivered a crushing side kick to Ronan's ribs. The impact sent Ronan stumbling backward, his breath catching in his chest.

Kai didn't hesitate. He followed up with a spinning back fist, then swept low with a leg kick, nearly taking Ronan off his feet.

Ronan gritted his teeth, pain flaring in his ribs. Not yet. He channeled his spiritual energy, his body glowing faintly as his speed increased. Dodging Kai's next strike, he leapt into the air and drove a flying knee into Kai's chest. The force knocked Kai back several steps, his breath coming in sharp gasps.

Sensing his chance, Ronan's aura flared brighter. He moved like a phantom, slipping past Kai's defenses, striking from all angles. The crowd murmured in awe-his speed was unreal. It seemed like victory was within his grasp.

Then, Kai's smirk twisted into something darker.

Without warning, his body surged with energy, his aura flaring brighter than Ronan's. The air around him grew heavy. The ground trembled beneath his feet.

Kai let out a slow breath, his stance shifting.

Then he moved.

His roundhouse kick came like a lightning bolt, his leg wreathed in glowing energy. Ronan barely had time to react before the blow smashed into his side, sending him skidding across the yard.

The crowd erupted.

Kai didn't let up. He closed the distance in a heartbeat, his attacks now just as fast as Ronan's. A crushing elbow strike hammered Ronan's shoulder, followed by a spinning heel kick that drove the air from his lungs.

Ronan staggered. His vision blurred.

Kai's uppercut came like a hammer. Ronan's feet left the ground.

He crashed onto the dirt, gasping, his body screaming in protest. But still, he tried to push himself up. I can't lose...

Kai wasn't finished. He executed a series of spinning kicks, each one glowing with raw power. The final strike slammed into Ronan's chest, driving him to the ground.

Silence.

Ronan lay still, his chest rising and falling with ragged breaths.

Kai stood victorious, his aura slowly fading.

The schoolyard remained frozen-stunned, awed, afraid. Sara's hand covered her mouth, her expression unreadable. Fang's fists clenched at his sides. Kira, watching from the sidelines, felt something stir inside him.

The fight was over. But something told Kira this was only the beginning.

As the dust settled after the intense fight, murmurs spread through the gathered students. Excitement buzzed in the air as they whispered about the incredible techniques displayed by both Ronan and Kai, dissecting every move and speculating on the outcome of future clashes.

Pushing through the crowd, Kira and Fang hurried to Ronan's side, their faces etched with concern. Kira knelt beside him, scanning his injuries. "Are you okay, Ronan?" he asked, his voice laced with worry.

Ronan, still catching his breath, managed a weak but determined smile. "I'll be fine... just need a minute," he said, wincing slightly.

Meanwhile, Fang turned his attention to Kai, who stood with a smug grin, clearly reveling in his victory. With a mocking chuckle, Kai crossed his arms. "I hope you two aren't as weak as your friend here," he sneered, nodding toward Ronan before locking eyes with Fang. "Because you're next in line for a good dose of humiliation."

Before Fang could reply, Sara stepped in, placing a firm hand on Kai's arm. "That's enough, Kai," she said, her voice calm yet commanding. "You've proven your point. Let it go."

Kai's smirk lingered, but after a long moment, he allowed Sara to pull him away. "Don't worry," he called over his shoulder, flashing a cocky grin. "I'll be seeing you again soon."

Once Kai disappeared into the crowd, Fang exhaled sharply before turning to Ronan. He extended a hand. "Come on. Let's get you back to the room," he said, his usual calmness edged with frustration.

As they walked, Fang's patience finally snapped. "I told you not to let Kai provoke you," he said, his voice low but firm. "Now he's got the upper hand, and we've drawn more attention to ourselves."

Ronan winced as he gingerly touched his ribs but didn't argue. "I thought I could handle him... I didn't expect him to use his spiritual energy like that."

Kira, walking beside them, placed a reassuring hand on Ronan's shoulder. "You fought incredibly well," he said sincerely. "Taking on a level five fighter when you're only level three? That's impressive."

Fang sighed, some of his irritation fading. "What's done is done. Get some rest. Tomorrow, we plan our next move."5
