Chapter 1 - The Dream

I woke up to find my father looking sad. Well, I guessed it was because he didn't win the lottery, again. And it was. "Dad?" I called. "Yes, Vynn?" He replied. "We didn't win the lottery, right?" I asked. "Yes, both of us didn't." He answered, sounding sad. "Sorry." "No need. It's not your fault anyway." I smiled. "I'm gonna go to school, okay dad? I will be working after so meet you at 7. I'll buy something for dinner." I told him. "Thank you. You know, I should be the one working. I mean-"

"Dad, you're enough. Now, I will see you at seven. Bye!"I concluded as I closed the door behind me gently. I went on my bike and rode off.

Once I arrived at school, the bell rang. I ran to class. When I opened the door, I saw a tall woman wearing a long skirt and a shirt with her badge that read 1. "Vynn, you are a minute late." She said calmly, but she looked furious. "Sorry, Ms. Red." "Sorry won't fix the minute, Sonny." I said nothing. "DETENTION!" She blasted her words in my face. My eyes darkened as I start to sweat. "Miss, you can't do that. I have work, please!" I begged. "I can and I just did. And- you should have thought of it before you decided to be a minute late." "Miss, please... I can't be late to work again." "Sonny, doesn't your father or mother work?" She asked. "N-no, miss." "Pathetic little family!" She scoffed. "THEY- WE ARE NOT PATHETIC!" I screamed. "Lil' boy, y'all are. Now, go to detention. I am not sending you after class. Not because I feel bad, but because nobody is free. Now, GO!" I ran to detention and had a miserable time. After school, I went to work and got my paycheck. I came back with food and had dinner with my dad. "Dad?" I asked. "Yes, son?" "Can you sign here? It's my report card." "Okay." I got A's but a B. "Keep up your work." He said. "Thank you, Dad." I smiled. "I'm off to bed. I must—tomorrow's Saturday. I have work at nine until seven, so I have to wake up early." I said. "Sure. Good night." He smiled weakly. "Good night." I was to ashamed to tell my dad I love him. I don't know why. I hated myself. I went to bed, and the same dream happened, me being the laughing stock at school.

I woke up, got ready, and went straight to work. My dad wasn't asleep, but he was in his room, didn't win the lottery again. I didn't want to disturb him, so I left a note and left. It was an okay day at work. All fine. But at break. I saw something, or two people at least. It was my dad, and a person I don't know. I eavesdropped.

"Your son works here? Ha! At least it's better because you are not even working. Look at my tesla. I knew you'd be poor. You son must be embarrassed-"

"I AM NOT! WHO ARE YOU TO TALK TO MY DAD LIKE THAT?" I screamed.

"His rich friend. You just made the conversation boring." He replied.

"Boring? Boring? You are boring. And it's only because someone spoke up to you. And you lost. Blergh!" I smirked.

"Why you-"

"Don't 'why you' me. Why did you start this anyway? Now leave this before I tell my boss to ban me. And boy, he will be okay with it."

"Whatever! I was planning to leave anyway. Bye- Losers! HA!"

I helped Dad get up. "Are you okay?" I asked. "I'm okay. Don't worry. Go back in there. I'm safe." "O-okay then. Be alright, okay? Stay safe. I'm going. See you!" "See you!" He replied weakly as I left. I wanted to help him, but I was afraid my manager would fire me. Not the actual boss, he's friendly.

I had dinner and went to my room again. But this time, it's a different one. It was good- and a bit bad. This terrifying-looking man came to me and told me some lottery numbers. Then it was morning. I told my dad the numbers and guess what? You guessed right. WE WON THE LOTTERY! I WAS SOOO HAPPY. LIKE, IT WAS THE BEST DAY OR MY LIFE, RIGHT AFTER MY WORST!
