Divided We Fall
Arin's POV
I was thrown ten feet into the air as the ground exploded beneath me. As dust and rocks rained down around me, I hit the dirt hard and gasped for air. I could hear people yelling and the sound of something enormous piercing the ground through the confusion.
"Arin!" Kael's voice sounded distant.
I felt a sharp pain in my ribs as I attempted to sit up. It was difficult to see what was going on because my golden eyes were watering from all the dust. I wished it hadn't when the dust finally cleared.
A huge shadow-and-bone creature was dragging itself up out of the earth. With red eyes that glowed and claws as long as tree branches, it must have stood fifty feet tall. My teeth ached from the sound of its roar.
"What is that thing?" Rowan yelled.
My mother said, "A Bone Wraith," her face white with fear. "I believed they had all been destroyed centuries ago."
