Chapter 37 - Assault from the shadows and an informed choice

Thales breathed and concentrated on analysing the situations, the costs and benefits of the decisions made in aiding either side.

He ended up going with the Everspire Aletheia.

"Miray, focus our defences are going to be breached and we will have to make a stand, they are decaying stability in our memorial preservation, they cannot be allowed to disgrace the spire like this."

Yes and I know who is behind this attack Thales thought, but I won't say, not yet. I am concerned about how I can use this chaos as fuel for my pursuit, honestly I considered stealing memories for short term gains, but this place itself could inch me closer to The Mystery.

Thales thought with a hungry look in his eyes.

"Be careful Miray, I see dangerous storms in your eyes; do not rock the boat in it." She said with stern countenance.

Thales snorted.

He saw memory streams flickering erratically like an out of control water hose.

He heard whispers from his supposed comrades at this moment.

"Our doom is certain, akin to our ancestors in the tragedy of Historia."

Thales thought on these mnemonics cries, it reminds him of the vague flickering of war he saw in his gazing of the collective tapestry.

It also reminded him of Khalud.

His faction laid elsewhere.

"At ease! my brothers and sisters, the waves of chaos crash and clash with progress and always a destined hero emerges, that is the nature of the cycles, the curling loop is inevitable remain true to this unshakeable notion of Histories repeated clashes of brutality for we will always remain, mere savages cannot overtake the dignity of memory. This is natural destruction and destruction will of course bring its sibling suffering, but the spirit will be remembered, let's see these copies of phantasms challenge the will of Historia."

The Custodians with him had their morale hardened by their senior's indifference to the situation with his unrelenting philosophy even in the face of terrorism.

The crystalline structures were being poisoned elsewhere as chaos was in ordered formations and paradoxically churned like a well oiled machine as they were laid by the man known as "The Forgotten Blade"

Hannibal Voidclaw, who was outnumbered 10-1 and yet marched forwards as if he was time itself, Or rather its promise of death to all conventional living things

His men were blinking in and out of existence all over the spire corroding them with the legionnaire's techniques and even opening small, localized pockets of black doom, in the streams turning it into the lava-esque hue of the corrupted pools in their homeland.

"Probably best to be flies to the custodians for you" He said to a group and to another he said, "Keep to the shadows and poison the rivers"

"You destroy memories not for corruption, the third legion group will combine their efforts to result in entropy, my personal unit and those who have completed their mission will advanced with our true goal."

"May their cries only be heard in "his" void!" They said in unison.

Pockets of oblivion were surfacing in the sights of both Aletheia and Thales and Khalud's separate battle camps they had different approaches to attempt to deal with the pressing matter.

The effects of the oblivion were creating strange effects.

"Please sir I cannot continue, that's my grandma her skin is charred, I can't deal with her death again by my own hands"

"Senior Aletheia that's my wife I left her for the cause of the spire please don't make us kill her now"

"They're mere phantasms ignore them" She said as she started weaving her symbolic cultivation.

Thales looked on with a bored expression as he knew this was misdirection from his prior knowledge, it was quite elaborate since they were fighting while laying multiple false motives.

Spectres from lost civilizations were waking up from the records of history and arriving in battle.

"How annoying to dance like a puppet" Thales muttered, both a mirror representing the warriors he faced in battle and his own actions on both a present and metaphysical scope.

Khalud echoed commands.

"We are going to form a defensive line while I simultaneously use my prolegomena as a battering ram." It appeared this was his cultivation, the man known as Khalud a great scholar adapting tactics from his records.

He faced the beings that quite literally had a formless physiology; he was absolutely disgusted at their appearance for not simple reasons however.

"You poor ephemeral what-nots of History" He summoned energy constructs, that seemed to falter.

They moved like an uncontrollable snake.

His silent opponents used concentrated blasts of chaotic potential and fired it at Khalud which he evaded sacrificing some men in the process.

Sorry such is the inevitability of chaos. He thought, silently apologizing.

He saw them being slowly breaking into pieces, while others had their physical presence erased entirely. Khalud knew some were alive due to his status, he assumed his opponents weren't too high of cultivators if cultivators at all directly themselves, they seemed like unformed who had to rely in packs to survive.

Khalud's snake like energy collapsed on them.

"Witness the proper system of history and respect its superior movements"

It looked like it had flickered out but it came out of nowhere, from unconventional angles and slammed the shadowy figures killing their fragile existences almost instantly while some barely got away.

Some attempted to retreat.

"I don't think so, rats."

He decelerated their cultivation back to 0 and then launched more energy attacks at them

"All systems can fall" He roared.

These energy attacks he sent this time were like bombs exploding the forces that were in front of him as only 1 or 2 escaped barely.

He took this breathing time to remember his fallen comrades this is why he let them die, to ruthlessly use them as sources of his cultivation, bringing them into phantasmagorical shells of their previous selves in battle as they seethed with rage at the ones who killed them.

"Ah yes, hatred is a profound motivator in conflicts" he briefly reflected as he moved to the take back the resonance hall from what seemed to be the legions main stronghold"
