Chapter 4 - Finally some respect (pt 1)

Finally, some respect.

At long last—I stretched out my arms. I danced forward and twirled. I pirouetted.

I had passed the door. An impenetrable fortress. And now, at the age of three, I was finally allowed outside.

That woman who thought she was my mother… she had misguided delusions. She dangled this freedom in front of me like it would persuade me to speak.

Now—I needed to explore.

My senses were still dull, but I could tell: the servants were watching. Somewhere, hidden. It wasn't like I needed to escape anymore. I had already done that internally.

Yet still, I hadn't seen true life. Only guards. Only my warden.

Solitary confinement means nothing to me. I have a vague feeling I've been alone before.

Now, I'm in her study. Lilith's.

It was unlocked. A quiet invitation. I assume no servant would dare enter without her express permission.

There's a grand piano. Sheet music resting on its stand.

Sheet music.

I snickered.

These creatures—these people—are so primitive in how they understand the symbols of existence. Or in their case, Maya.

Maya was… my friend, I think?

I don't remember.

I don't know what I'm talking about or why I said that name.

It makes me feel stupid. Small. Like something inside me cracked.

I'll make it stop.

I sit. I channel the sensation into the piano.

And I play.

Perfectly.

What is there to learn when my soul remembers?

…Soul. Am I really accepting that word right now?

Applause.

Chills run down my spine like divine electricity.

Apparently, due to this smaller body, I am over-stimulated.
