Chapter 10 - No buts

Isabella's pov

Nick convinced me to go with in to Florida for a business contract after we would go and visit his mom before going back to the hotel. I have been talking to his mom on the phone for a while now . She always made me laugh whenever she talks about his childhood. We stood hand in hand as Nick knocked on the door.A slightly grey haired woman opened the door. She looked so stunning in person just like Sofia. "How do you do , Mrs Graham?" I asked "I have warned you over the phone not to call me Mrs. Graham. Just call me Grace okay? I'm fine . What about you?" She asked " Gud." I simply replied before she pulled me inside the house.

"Oh, Isabella, it's so lovely to finally see you! Nicky has told me so much about you. Yes, yes, come in, make yourself comfortable. Oh, don't mind the background, it's just a bit of a mess, you know how it is. Now, where were we? Ah, yes, Nick's childhood. Well, buckle up, because we have a lot to cover!" She said pulling me to sit beside her. Just then a man emerged from the kitchen. Nick walked over hugging him. " Dad." He said. "Hello , Isabella. Nice to meet you." He said before walking away with Nick trailing behind him.

" Don't mind them. They always discuss business whenever they meet. Like father like son.You know, Nick was always a whirlwind of energy. Even as a baby, he was always on the move. I remember when he first started crawling; he was like a little rocket, zooming all over the house! He'd get into everything, of course. The cabinets, the drawers, you name it. I swear, I spent half my days just trying to keep him out of trouble. But he was always so curious, always wanting to know how things worked. That inquisitive nature is still very much a part of him, you know.As he got older, his curiosity turned into a passion for building things. He was always taking apart his toys, trying to figure out how they ticked. And then, he'd try to put them back together, sometimes with success, sometimes not! (laughs) I remember one time, he took apart his favorite toy car and couldn't get it back together. He was so frustrated, but he didn't give up. He sat there for hours, tinkering with it until he finally got it working again. That persistence, that determination, that's always been a part of him. He even built his own telescope out of cardboard boxes and lenses! It wasn't the most sophisticated thing, of course, but he was so proud of it. And you know, I think that early fascination with space really shaped him. It taught him to dream big, to look beyond what's right in front of him.

He was always a very social child, too. He loved being around other kids, and he was always making new friends. He was the kind of kid who would invite everyone to play, even if they didn't know him. He had a big heart, and he always wanted to make people happy. As he got older, he went through his rebellious phase, of course. There were times when we didn't see eye to eye, times when we butted heads. But even then, I knew he was a good kid at heart. He always had a strong sense of right and wrong, and he always wanted to do the right thing. He just needed to figure out his own path, you know? And now, look at him. He's grown into such a wonderful man. He's kind, he's compassionate, he's intelligent, and he's still that curious, energetic boy I remember. And he's so happy with you, Isabella. You bring out the best in him. I'm so glad you're in his life.Oh, and one last thing, he used to have this teddy bear, his best friend. He took it everywhere. I wonder if he still has it... (laughs)" we both laugh together "MOMMM! I can hear you!" We heard him shout. "Whatever!!!" His mom said. "Let's go and make some meal. You two must be starving. " she said , raising to her feet and leading me to the kitchen. "You guys are staying the night right?" she enquired. "Umm… we didn't want to be of any burden so we'll go back to the hotel after…" i didn't finish saying when she cut in , "Nonsense! You two can stay here for the night okay?" She interrupted and I just nodded. " I hope you brought some clothes for the night. If not I'll call my boutique to bring you variety of clothes to choose from." She added taking her phone" Oh no no no.. you don't have to do that. We ummm have some clothes in the car. I'll go and bring them." I said and smiled sweetly at her. 'She's just like her son' I said inwardly. "Fantastic! If that's settled then, you guys would be using Nicholas' childhood room. It's already clean. It's just to your immediate left when you climb the stairs." She instructed. " Okay buh I want to help with the meal first before…" I was saying when she started pushing me out of the kitchen. " Nope! Go and set up your things . I'll prepare everything."she cut in. " Buh,.." I was saying. " No buts! I have servants who will assist me so now go!" She smiled and said " Okay, buh at least lemme.." I was saying when she cut in " You're so stubborn!" She said. "Okay. You'll help set up the table. Now go" she added and pushed me further. " Ruth, I want you to help her bring out her stuff from the car!!" She told the servant nearby before retiring back to the kitchen.
