Chapter 9 - Chapter 9- He is not my boyfriend

 Lexi

"Lexi, I trust you got my flowers."

Richard smirked. He was wearing a black charcoal suit, holding a shopping bag.

He looked deliciously handsome, at least he would if he wasn't such an arse.

"How did you… what are you doing here?" I snapped, the worry in me disappeared only to be replaced by anger. anger.

 "I came to see you,"

"Why?" I asked, folding my arms around my chest and trying not to glare at him but I couldn't help it.

"Look, I came to check if you were alive. You disappeared on me in the middle of the busiest city in the world with no way to go home. I thought something had happened to y…"

"Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't we talk about this earlier? I told you I was fine, did I not?"

 "Yes…"

"Then you have no reason to be here. Please leave…" I started to say but my brother appeared beside me like a toddler missing its mother.

 "Everything okay?"

"Who are you?" Richard asked, eyes narrowing and nose scrunching in disapproval like some aristocrat sneering at peasants.

"I'm Lexi's brother. Who are you?" Jace replied, squaring up like a protective tough guy. He was almost as tall as Richard, which from my angle, made it look like two giants were about to duel, ridiculously close to a dwarf. (Aka, me.)

"A friend of your sister's. She never mentioned she had a brother,"

 He said.

"She never mentioned she had a boyfriend,"

"He's not my boyfriend," I snapped.

"Oh. Trouble in paradise?" Jace asked, immediately dropping the tough guy- protective brother act like it was nothing.

"She's upset about something I did which I completely regret…"

"She's Always been like that. You just gotta keep trying, she'll come around,'

"You think?" Richard asked with a raised brow.

"It works for me… then again, she's a bit of a misandrist towards men that aren't her brothers,"

"Ah, I see, think you can give me some pointers?"

 Richard asked.

"Sure but you gotta pay," Jace shrugged.

 "Name your price…"

"Now we are talking,..." Jace grinned, rubbing his hand together conspiratorially.

"That's it," I snapped, "Get the fuck out of my property, Richard. I don't want to ever see you here again and you know what?"

I stormed toward the kitchen, grabbed the flowers, and hurled them at him.

"Here. I don't want them. I will never forgive you."

With that, I slammed the door in his face, painting with annoyance.

What was with him? Why couldn't he leave me the fuck alone and did he honestly think I would be that fake ass apology. This was not my first rodeo with men like him.

He looked sincere enough but he looked sincere that night too, the night I thought all he was was a struggling gigolo.

"Damn, that was intense," Jace quipped behind me.

I ignored him and stormed to the kitchen, trying to calm my nerves.

"So, I'm guessing there's no fixing whatever that relationship was, huh?"

"I'm glad you understand," I said, turning to look at him.

"Seems like a cool guy though," Jace said, plopping down on the chair.

"He isn't. He's the farthest thing from cool."

Jace nodded thoughtfully, "So, you gon tell me what he did? Jail Worthy or silly things that women get annoyed at ?"

 "Drop it Jace," I snapped.

"Alright, Alright… jeez," Jace said, putting up his hand in surrender.

I stood up abruptly and made my way to my room. That asshole had managed to give me headaches in the two minutes he was here and I hated it. Today was not my day.

 First, Jace and now Richard.

Whoever was writing my story up in heaven really hated me.

The sun was setting when I finally came out of my room.

Jace was nowhere to be found.

I blew a sigh of relief

If there was one thing I wanted to do was to be alone.

I opened my computer on my tiny dining table and began to apply for more jobs. I needed a job by tomorrow.

I closed my computer once I was done and I threw my head back, running my hands through my face in frustration.

I couldn't believe Richard had the audacity to come over here.

What the hell did he think he was doing?

Just then my phone rang from my bedroom.

I groaned and rose from the dinning chair.

I made my way to my bedroom and plucked my phone from the bed.

"What is it, Jace? Managed to get yourself in trouble already?" I quipped.

"Haha, no. I just need a couple box from you. Say, 60… I promise it's important."

 I sighed.

 "Where are you?"

"Looking for a job like you said."

 "Uh, couldn't wait till tomorrow?"

"Look, I know how hard you've been working and I don't want to be a burden,"

"You're not a burden, Jace. An idiot but not a burden."

"Well, I don't want to ever be one."

"Alright. I'll Cash app you then,"

"Thank you, Sis. I owe you my life,"

I rolled my eyes before hanging up.

Just as I sent him a 60, my phone rang. It was Rhea.

 "Hey, girl. What's up?'

"Uh, nothing much. You?" I questioned.

"Nothing much. So, Eve and I are going to a bar on the weekend. Wanna come?"

 "I don't know…"

"You're not Allowed to say no, btw," Rhea said.

"Exactly! We won't accept a no." Evelyn said in the background.

 "I don't have any money,"

 "We'll cover you."

"Fine, sure. I'll come. I'll pay you back as soon as I have cash,"

"No need, we'll see you then. Love you."

 "Love you," I replied.

 "Love you," Evelyb s

aid in the background.

 "Love you too,'

 With that I hung up.

I made my way to my room, dressed up and decided to take a walk.

Maybe fresh air will clear my head. Or maybe, just maybe, the universe will cut me a break.
